Thanks for checking in Jeff! :)
Good to have you closer to the Triangle Area!
Marshall KE4ZNR

Just checking in also. Since the move, have not had too much time to scan and reprogramming is a pain. I have been hand reprogramming my PSR300 just to get the feel of it. Sometime soon will rejoin as paid sub and reprogram the BCT 15 and 796D the easy way!

RARSFest is the annual Ham Radio Convention or "HamFest"
held in Raleigh at the NC State Fairgrounds:
RARSFest
License tests are given at most HamFests and RARSFest is no exception. :)
It just so happens that this year RARSFest fell on the 23rd (last weekend) when you took your test.
No matter where you took the test the main thing is you passed! :)
Congrats and welcome to an awesome hobby!
Happy Monitoring

New ham in Perquimans County

Congrats, There are several other hams in Hertford, a local ham club (taars.org - I think) in Elizabeth City, and a ham in Edenton and a club in Columbia (Tyrrell County) and oh yeah, a ham in Tyner (me).

Welcome from a person who has been a ham since I was 15

Very new to the scanner world. Had an old bc scanner 20 years ago. If you drove to another state like SC just switched the scanner to SC. With this new scanner technoligy I am way behind in the power curve. 396T seems to be working well. Got rid of most of the pre-sets and imported the local area freq's into the 396T. I sure didn't want to get caught again with those tornado's or other nasty weather. Didn't believe the news on tv to be on alert. Heard it to many times in the past and luckily turned out to be nothing. Past over and set down an 1/8 or 1/4 mile after it went right over my area.

I mainly monitor KILM (Wilmington International Airport) air and ground traffic. Also listen to Brunswick County Sherriff's, and the marine band for Wrightsville Beach, NC.

Ive always been a big aviation guy. I started off with a transistor am/fm radio and saw online how to convert my FM band to recieve higher up, past 108mhz, where the aviation band is. After months of tweaking it, I finally was able to listen to the airport tower. I was hooked ever since. I then picked up a "Sporty's AirScan" radio, that had LF, HF, AM, and FM. LF was the most intriguing to me, since I found all kinds of "beeping" throughout the band. I discovered that that was morse code, and I decyphered it and the beeping was aeronautical beacons. I typed the 3 letter code online and found their locations and logged all of them in a note book. Now I just use my Uniden scanner.
