Ok, I must be doing something wrong. I have searched everywhere and came up empty handed. I have programmed numerous radios, but this is the first Uniden I have programmed.

I have the system setup as conventional since I have conventional since when I select P25 it doesn't allow me to enter frequencies. I have the frequencies entered correctly and the correct NAC code, but it is still not opening on those channels even when not scanning. It will scan and receive conventional channels with PL, but really sucks on the receive though.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? Anyone have a DPS file I maybe can look at and see what I am not doing?

goto: ScanNow.org - The Home of FreeSCAN! and download FreeScan, it will make programming easier.

Other than that it sounds like you are programming it correctly.

One idea, program the frequency in, set it as digital audio, but instead of putting in the NAC set it as Search for the NAC.

Another thing I noticed is a hissing in the background while receiving conventional channels while the voice is coming out. Is that just because of the antenna on the back of the radio not being connected to an external antenna? I only have it connected to the metal antenna that came with it.

Do you think that is easier to use than the ARC-XT Pro?

I have both ARC-XT pro and Freescan. I was disappointed in ARC-XT pro because of some of the early bugs. Freescan seemed to at least work without messing up any of the programming. I think that ARC-XT has got at least all the critical bugs worked out, so that is good. The reason I mentioned Freescan is because it is free.

The hissing I don't know, do you get it on all analog channels, even on different systems?
Does moving the scanner change it?

The hissing is only on the analog channels. I made some changes in the trunking portion and reprogrammed it and it reduced it so we will see. I still can't get the digital to work well. Caught a slight bit of transmission earlier so it must just be a receive problem One other question, is there a way to make it quit flashing between the system and the site when not scanning? If I only want to listen to one channel it gets annoying.

You could name them the same thing. Other than that I don't know of any other way.

I think it may be a threshold problem. When I set it to monitor the error rate by pushing func and then volume I see it trying to open, so am thinking if I lower the threshold that may be able to get it fixed, but I can't figure out how to lower the threshold. Everything I read appears to pertain to the 396XT, not the 996XT. Any ideas?
