The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

First off, I'm completely new to radios. I have a Baofeng uv-9g GMRS radio. I have tested it via NOAA to confirm its work. I want to use it to monitor my local municipality radio frequencies near me. I'm trying to program my radio through CHIRP. the freq. in question uses DPL 026 for tone. I'm reading that DTCS in CHIRP is the same as DPL. but after programing my radio with DTCS it receives a signal, green light is on, but no sound. If I leave the tone blank l get a digital jackhammer noise. I don't think it's DMR. someone know why I'm Not receiving sound? Is the code wrong or polarity? Thanks.

frequency in question:

The “jackhammer” sound is a good indicator of it being DMR. On the license your linked I see they are licensed for analog and DMR both.

It’s also simplex, so you’ll have to be with a mile or so to be able to hear anything.

I think you're right and it could be DMR. I ran an experiment and programed some known DMR references that were giving me the jackhammer with no tones and set them to DTCS. Like the frequency I listed above, the DMR channels will output no sound on DTCS. It may be the referance is wrong or outdated and my ISD has switched from FM to DMR. seems like unfortunately, most of Tarrant County frequency have moved to DMR or completely encrypted. thanks for the help.
