Well its not encrypted, which is good. But I really find the voice quality better on analog, but maybe thats just me. Hopefully they leave it open, which I think they will because of interop purposes.
It's a "patch" from the analog system and the voice quality isn't as clear as digital. I didn't post this to debate analog versus digital, I posted this since it was an update to the system.

That makes sense why it doesn't sound so good. I appreciate the info!

I thought command staff and special units (gangs Swat Narcos etc... ) carried APX8000s. If so, why would they need a patch when the radios are all band?
They do, but this was a patch from the analog Citywide 1, and based on what I heard, they're still in the process of reprogramming Citywide 1 assigned units radios. This might be something new, they might be moving everyone assigned to Citywide 1 with a reprogrammed radio to the "C-Bank 1" or something like that in the near future. Might be a patch set up for those who don't have a reprogrammed radio and calls the Citywide 1 dispatcher on the "B-Bank 1 position" for interoperability. Might be a temporary talk group to move everyone off Citywide 1 so they can reprogram all the receiver sites for P25 UHF encryption. Might be moving all the Citywides to the 800 system while they reprogram all the receiver sites for P25 UHF encryption. Pure speculation on my part.

Just a note, as of this morning the patch is disabled.

That is zone 7, the 2nd/3rd district. 2xx units are 2nd district, 3xx are 3rd district. Generally the 3rd district is the area East of Dan Ryan south of around 60th St. If you look up Chicago Police District maps, its the 3rd district.

It's a first for me he was requesting parking courtesy on lower level.
Yes I heard, will call it in once the vehicle arrives. Common practice at both airports. CPD is then required to "verify" the credentials before it's approved. Once it's approved, will also be announced on the MDW TMA channel in addition to CPD channel.

DHS (Homeland Security) also has radios that access the 800 Trunking System when needed and will identify as "Homeland Security". I've heard them on ORD CPD and MDW CPD talk groups at various times over the years.

I think CPD has decided to make both of their Event TG's full ENC. Maybe it's just me, but I haven't heard anything in the clear for months now.

The TGID's 5148 & 5149 that were added in the database recently are all part of the Education & Training Center at 1300 W. Jackson, and not specific to Radio Training. 2600 series units that are being heard are used by the recruits.

It always seems to be the same CFD dispatchers on the same shift that seem to always have issues with the 800 consoles down there. Then they try switch everyone to the "back-up" (which half the people don't know how to find that zone), the radio shop swoops in, "fixes the issue", and 20 minutes later, they're back on 800. Now the back and forth as to which zone are we on now? LOL!

Sounds like the CFD game of musical radio systems continues

Not really. It's isolated to consoles not connecting to the network, this time it was only EMS North, then they moved EMS South in case their was an incident. The system has been very good, much fewer problems than when the P25 UHF interference would knock them out completely. When they switch zones, it causes havoc in the field because they don't have the memo in front of them with instructions. The radio folks at the OEMC are there 24/7 and quickly resolved the issue again. 15 minutes on one of the portables would have been sufficient since the entire radio system was on line. The fire consoles never lost connectivity so there's that. Rebooted it, and all was good again.

It would appear, based on the last couple weekend's large events, the 800 mhz. system is being used primarily for these details. CPD Event-1/Event-2 as well as CFD JHAT/FD Event-1/FD Event-2 were in use. CPD's Event talk groups were partially encrypted with the dispatcher in the clear, and CFD's JHAT talk group was encrypted while Events 1 & 2 were in the clear as noted in the database.

I did see a new block of radio ID's that I did hear being tested by the CFD radio shops on the CFD talk groups previously. 168xxxx dos not fit any CFD or EMS district pattern, and I "suspect" these radios are going to be used in the future for the DNC and beyond. Radio signature 6-4-27 was heard on a few of these radios, and currently that's not an assigned CFD radio signature, but falls in line under the Breathing Apparatus 6-4-xx block. Might be something new I'm not aware of, or a phantom radio signature for the upcoming DNC?

I did see TGID 5413/Phase 2/Enc come up regularly during the event. Based on 5411 being Event-1 and 5412 being Event-2, it wouldn't be a reach to think it could be Event-3. Since it's not confirmed, wouldn't add that to the database yet.

Citywide 6 was in use for outer perimeter traffic control in both analog and being patched to the 800 system. The talk group is listed in the database.
