I saw a YouTube video interviewing the Icom rep., he suggested we will see radios in stock the end of 2021.

The video was at a recent ham show.

Ray said end of December or early January. I’d be shocked to see any radios in stock before January. That’s if there’s not another glitch in logistics, or chips.

Was talking to my nephew recently. He had an earlier version of this radio. Said it performed great. Hoping this new radio is even better. Am presuming this radio would out perform my R30 being a dedicated air band radio.

It should be a good radio. The 51 worked great for D Star and FM, but the screen was unreadable at times. The screen on the 52 is really nice (I’d love to see it on the R30). The menu is nearly the same but has some added features. As far as air band I don’t know if it would be better than an R30.

Being the R30 is a wide band radio and this new radio is allot more focused on just the air band, think it could be more refined and tuned. Don't know though. Am interested in it though.

if the ID-51‘s airband performance prowess is any indicator, this radio with similar airband specs is going to be a winner.

Lets hope they don't neuter the USA version. The asterisk on the specification for guaranteed frequencies has me wondering. If Icom would have included mil air in the IC 705, would not have sold it. Icom told me thats because of fcc certification requirement. If they neuter this radio, won't be buying it.

For as long as I've been a licensed amateur radio operator, it's been standard practice to guarantee the specifications of amateur radios to only the amateur radio bands. If you want a mil-air scanner, you may have to look elsewhere.

I'm interested in that radio. I'm a huge fan of Icom. it would make a nice backup to my Kenwood TH-D74

The 52E (euro version) will be available early December according to Waters and Stanton in the UK. £433 without VAT, or about $579 (USD).
