NJ 700 MHz TRS Sites

So I had some time to travel around the Northern half of NJ today, and this is what I came up with using a GRE PSR 500: (control channels)

774.78125 N390 S001 Watchung site area
773.83125 N392 S002 Harmony or Glen Gardner site area??
770.95625 N390 S022 Ramapo Mtn. site area? (heard in Wayne w/ a strong signal)
773.05625 N390 S024 Netcong site (100% confirmed)
770.70625 N396 S026 Montague/High Point site (100% confirmed)
770.71875 N397 S027 Walpack Center (Hill 1606) site area (75% confirmed)
769.18125 N390 S030 Ringwood site area? (heard in West Milford w/ a strong signal)
769.65625 N390 S033 Randolph site area? (heard in Morristown w/ a strong signal)

So, those with the data slicer gadgets/ProComm 96 decoder toys/discriminator taps, etc., hopefully this will be a start to finally mapping out this system... :)

This data has NOT been submitted to the database, pending confirmation from those who can run the Pro96 Comm files on the CC.

When doing these reports, we should probably include which site...just for reference.

Not hearing anything but DOT on Site 102.

WIll someone with a PSR-800, who has been monitoring one of these tower sites please send me the band plan tables that are stored after you've read the radio into the software?

They'll be under the site programming section and should have four listed (2 x FDMA & 2 x TDMA)

Please post the channel lo, channel hi, offset, etc.

Thanks,

I was just in Bethlehem, PA and had 3-4 bars on site 102. I am surprised it goes that far into PA

I am here: Google Maps

Take a look at that site in the database; you're easily within it's 15 mile or so coverage area as it's just across the river near Phillipsburg... 700 works pretty well, especially when it's installed properly and they use the right down tilt in the antenna array, proper cabling, etc. Many of the early 800 systems weren't so lucky but they are slowly getting better as upgrades take place.

Excuse my ignorance with this PSIC system but I currently use a PSR 500 and 600 and do receive some transmissions; such as the various DOT t-groups though none of the others mentioned here, such as from the State Police. Can these radios be programmed to receive the other transmissions; or do I need the PSR 800 as some writers have noted here. Thanks in advance for feedback.

You'll be able to here some of the radio traffic on this system but not all without a PSR-800, which directly handles the x2-TDMA systems. For DOT units, you'll be fine for sometime to come as they are all FDMA exclusively. As for the law enforcement groups that will be joining this system, most will eventually be TDMA but may start out in the traditional FDMA format until radios are replaced statewide. The important groups such as executive protection, attorney general, etc will ALL be TDMA with full encryption...

Go ahead and enjoy the system for the DOT and various statewide services, but do not expect law enforcement or other public safety agencies for long. Eventually, almost all of New Jersey will be full-time encrypted...

W2GLD where did you get your info on the full time encryption, since you located in Pinckney, Michigan
i thought this system is being deployed for interops and state pd is going to stay on 800mhz except for some fill in by the 700mhz trs sites

I believe he meant that the state police would remain on the 800MHz TRS and that possibly local/municipal police would migrate to the 700MHz TRS. Correct me if I'm wrong.

To further clarify, that's speaking about the situation today, or the situation when the system is more fully up and running. I'm expecting that since I'm not seeing the channel /1 /2 format in Pro96Com it means that that all traffic is still FDMA? Or does Pro96Com reading from a PSR-500 not show the TDMA access even if it is occurring on the system being monitored?

I use PSR-800 on Pro96Com and it's not showing channel /1 /2 format either, so the answer is no, at least for site 101 all traffic is FDMA.

Several inside sources and until recently, I lived in Southern NJ (Camden County); rest assured, most if not all of NJ will be encrypted at some point in the near future...

NJSP Patrol will remain on 800 with the ability to roam to 700; various other agencies will also have the same functionality. The 800 system is going through upgrades as well; eventually they all will be part of the 7.11 platform...
