Do the simulcast channels need to be installed in order to hear the talkgroups? The scanner never seems to stop on the simulcasts.

Talkgroups are useless without frequencies. You need to have at least one of the sites programmed, depending on your location, yes. The scanner should find the active control channel, at which point it will start decoding the talkgroups.
That was my thinking but the “simulcast” threw me off. I’ll just leave them all programmed. Thanks.
