Those settings are fine it sounds like you are familiar with the radio. You have quite a number of sites and by default each site filter setting is set to Global, keeping global normal should be fine for start ignoring NAC is also a good idea. So when you use the database during the ZIP code search you are getting the system. You are not using GPS so location control when listening to favorites list should be in material. Your antenna is not the most optimal for 800 megahertz. The antenna that comes with the radio it's not so hot either.

Here's a question oh, you say you have a TRX, does that work on this system? I know it's p2 capable but does it work?

I have my TRX programmed identical as the SDS. The TRX is receiving loud and clear. I will start again tomorrow with deleting favorites in sentinel and redoing them. I may delete sentinel all together and reinstall. Right now im frustrated and need to take a break. I did wipe the card again and just put in my zip code. That is working ok for now although I don’t like zip cod scanning just to many frequencies to go through.

Don't be frustrated I think you're rather close. You have one site in Hutchinson in Reno County and that may be all you need to listen to and then you need to listen to The Talk groups of the stuff that is local to you on one favorites list that you are going to label with a quick key number like one and name it whatever you want like Reno dispatch or something like that. Sounds like you're getting close.

Not unless the scanner location is set wrong, or location data for sites or departments got deleted. And in both of those cases, turning off location control merely masks part of the problem.

Yep I asked him if they were using the Reno County VHF High or the Phase 2 Statewide system and he responded the state system. I noticed that he lives in Hutchinson and they have a site right in his town. It appears that it's in the clear with a few designated encrypted talkgroups. I'm kind of tapped out as to what the problem is as long as favorites list are numbered with quick keys oh, he also acknowledged my question if all service types were turned on.

Was list set to monitor and database updated prior to creating new profile?

When I created my first profile I forgot to update the DB and when I checked the favorites list, I noticed there was alot missing so I had to start over.

The OP needs to see what is on the display when scanning with the zipcode.

It was my understanding when I used Sentinel for the first time that the only changes that need to be made is, set target model to SDS100 (if it's not already) updating DB and Firmware, and setting list/lists to monitor and download to On.

I would start over. Update the database in Sentinel to ensure it's current. Delete the entire system from the favorite list, turn on location control in the favorite list settings, and redo the append to favorite list menu command to put a fresh copy of the system in the favorite list.

Look up your actual GPS coordinates using Google Maps (they are part of the URL once you manually zoom or scroll) and enter them in the Location tab in your Sentinel profile. You'll need to switch to decimal format.

DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING FROM THE SYSTEM. The most common newbie mistake is deleting things that shouldn't be, like sites. Instead, avoid departments near you that you have no interest in hearing. Location Control will avoid sites and departments that are clearly out of range, so you won't have to avoid much manually if you have it turned on, and the main range setting in the location tab is set to 5 miles or so.

Avoid is better than delete because it's reversible, and you can still use ID search to find new/unknown talkgroups. If you delete talkgroups, the scanner doesn't know what they are anymore, and they will come back if ID search is on. Talkgroups are not scanned, so there is no speed penalty for having a large number of talkgroups programmed for a system.

To do that, you must check the box that says FORCE WRITE FULL DATABASE, then new database along with favorites and other settings get sent to the scanner.

Although it doesn't hurt anything, checking the "FORCE WRITE FULL DATABASE" option is not at all necessary when writing an updated database (one with a newer date than the one in the scanner) from Sentinel to the scanner.

Thanks for the input once again. I first programmed Reno county and down loaded to the scanner card and listened for awhile and everything was fine. I then started looking at other counties and made other favorites list per country. Its when I downloaded the other counties that all this happened. I programmed 5 counties in total each with is own number/name that i can turn on and off. I only have Reno county on with no receiving and all the site names are scrolling

I have deleted all my favorites in sentinel and just re added Reno country and downloaded to the scanner. Now I’m listening side by side with the TRX. Every thing is fine I’m not sure what happened. Another question... is there a way to speed up or slow down the speed at which the frequencies are scanned?

There is no button or way to select a scan speed. The radio is a slow scanning radio secondary to the SDR chip that's used. The scanning speed was slowed down with a firmware update soon after it was introduced so as to get better performance.

One way you can ensure that you go as fast as possible is... as was said. Put a system in only on one favorites list, don't split systems in different favorites list. Don't scan unnecessary sites. In your case you have a site in your hometown, I think it was 012 in Hutchinson. Lock out all the others. Don't delete them, you may want them in the future if you travel but you can permanently avoid them so you just have the one site and that small group of frequencies being scanned. The actual number of talk groups you entered doesn't matter.
