• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Nice bonding. You are not fooling around. Though those protruding bolts are going to slash your head some day. I would take a look at other fasteners with lower profile.

I used SS sheetmetal screws. Followed k0bg directions. Fancy I/O star washers, etc. (Not implying criticism; wanted a model and then followed it).

That’s one helluva topper!

Thanks, and you're right, lol. I actually took the topper off yesterday so I could redo the mounts and get star washers on both sides of the hardware. Then I ran the bonding straps from the back side of the mount hardware to the side panel of the topper. Almost every other strap you see is just to bond the individual panels of the toper to the adjacent panels and/or gull doors. The only exception are the two short straps that run to the light pod mounts. The only reason I ran those was because they pass through a metal brace and into the sheet metal for the main part of the bed. Probably makes a decent DC ground, but I'm not sure about it's value as a RF ground. (can't hurt?)

Though those protruding bolts are going to slash your head some day. I would take a look at other fasteners with lower profile.

They're 1/4"x20 that are only 3/4" long, which was the shortest pan head bolt I could find in stainless. I probably could have had the head facing out in more places if I had thought of that. Once I get everything buttoned up I'll cut the excess off, at least anywhere that my topknot is in jeopardy.

I used SS sheetmetal screws. Followed k0bg directions. Fancy I/O star washers, etc.

I had started with 1/4" sheet metal screws but I kept stripping them out. Put a nut on it and I can torque the $#!7 out of it though. Putting SS external star washers on both sides of the sheet metal too, and sometimes between the lug and the head of the bolt if I really need it to stay put (particularly if I can't get a driver to the head of the bolt).

There is no horizontal sheet metal in that bed; just the vertical surfaces of the bed sides, SMH. So, today's agenda includes strapping the topper to the cab and the cab to the hood. Someday this thing might get a diamond plate upgrade for the bottom of the bed.

That’s one helluva topper!

Thank you sir! and Amen! I had my 225 pounds standing on it yesterday. Wifey said those cross bars weren't flexing at all. Of course the company says it has a 700# static weight limit and a 300# dynamic limit. I bet both are conservative. They also make a crap ton of accessories for it; everything from tool boxes to cook stoves! If I wasn't spending all my money on antennas and radio gear I could maybe have a small living quarters back there. If I keep spending all my money on antennas and radio gear I may have too! :ROFLMAO:

Last time I bought one was probably the late 90s, they were in the back room at RS, priced at $20. I think that’s the same price I had paid for my first one in the early 90s.

Wow.
Well, the last new one I bought included the heavy duty spring and ball mount. I recall a tad over $25.00. Circa 1978.
So, ball mounts harly exist any more:

I still have one in my barn. I knew that I hung on to it for a reason. I also have a Maco M103C that I plan on putting up when I retire next year.

$375 CAL-AV

Gadzooks and Great Scott!

I guess if you go that far might as well take the last step and hit that Mark-7...

Oh yeah, now I see...

Mark-7-Standard... $884

SPECIFICATIONS
Size: Approximately 3.7” diameter, approximately 8.45” long
Weight: 10.5 pounds.
Bending torque: Approximately 95 foot-pounds for a 10 degree deflection. Torque is measured with a perpendicular load applied 36 inches above the spring base.

For that kind of scratch I'd lean more towards mounting a super duty truck spring :ROFLMAO:

They giving you a ration of s#%^ for that antenna?

Just tell ‘em you and JD Vance used to split SOS, that infamous chipped beef on toast beloved of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children.

Or not. (Ha!).

The unreal gift of Benjamin Luxon:

For the tone-deaf, the Jules Offenbach duet inspired this. Full twirls & flourishes version:

Am sad to learn of Mr Luxons passing a few days ago, (I just learned as I searched this). Must have paid a visit to those who’d miss his presence.

Duty or not, nothing's ever so serious, eh?

That antenna will speak to character transmitted & received. The smile in the voice which belies the words.

Always on the job.

“If the Army & the Navy ever gaze on Heaven's scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines . . . .”

Dark days ahead.
Radio has its part.

No jeers yet, at least not over the air.

When they come I'll happily remind them that if they should need a message relayed further than they can reach I'd be delighted to pass it along.

If it comes rougher that generally acceptable banter I'll be ready too...

"Never heard a man so insecure as that... Of course I can see why... That there itty bitty whip'd make any man shy!"

"P.S. your ol' lady said she likes 'em long an hard, but you probably never heard her say it"

I’m not seeing beer, cigarette or coffee.

You been feeling okay?

Need be able to light one with mic in that hand while steering & yakking on-air plus beverage of choice in the other hand while it’s running the shifter. S&6^ gets crazy, you’ll be ready.

Might be needing some remedial.

Start by gettin’ all up in the windshield.

One of today’s kiddies in his underwear.
No pride and no brains.

We all started somewhere. I made sure I wasn’t going to get ash burns and had fabric to trap beer suds before it trickled back to my crotch. Or get sunburned. Go, go, little Brandon.

Gotta sit more forward. It ain’t a movie show out there. Half a Tsp of Cayenne powder daily and/or tobacco to keep testosterone high.

Mans got a pickup and a good radio, then he’s gettin’ ready for what he may be called upon to accomplish:

Adjust per records for brand & spec.

Speaker mounted under seat has its problems...

Namely this:

KIMG2543~2.JPG

Can barely get my liquor bottle (first aid?) under there, let alone a speaker 🤣

Could mount forward of there, but gonna take a inadvertent beating (kicking) from time to time.

KIMG2547.JPG

Just needed to know what 'er guts looked like...

Could have been a much smaller radio

You remember the first time you took her top off to see what was underneath?

KIMG2548~2.JPG

Re-rerouted (again) the wiring (there's some serious cable management going on behind that lower cover).

KLF2 in route from eBay going in there too ($34 and free shipping for brand new).

Photos to follow after DC upgrades

KIMG2552~2.JPG

Lawd, lawd...

Ain't that the purdiest lil hole you seen all week?!

KIMG2541~2.JPG

Ta-da!

Boy, if I saw that on the highway I’d drop whatever I was or wasn’t doing to key up and hear what it sounds like (and get radio rig details).

My ETA just changed.
I’m willingly going to take a pay cut this week.

A GR45 with that mount/location is like catching sight of The Flying Dutchman

There’s a legend out on the road.

Has happened to me twice in thirty years.

What no one tells the new guys if that he gets the mount right he’ll have that by which he’ll be learning from then on to live up to its promise.

I see you’re over the hump.
Welcome.

She's got monster ears! Air miles unknown, but I can hear truck stop chatter and I'm a 25 minute drive from there.

It's hard to tell in the photo but the black piece is the FM shark fin antenna on the back of the cab.

The GR45 is back on the camper shell with a Breedlove puck mount.

I don't know that I ever got George at Breedlove to understand what I actually wanted (a custom piece with 4" puck, 6" backing plate, QD on top, SO beneath).

Kept sending me replies with model numbers for stock options that were not those things. Finally pulled the trigger on a 2" puck with SO and QD.

Local machinist making custom plates 5.75" above and below. Ordered a 6" sheet of 1/8" delrin to isolate. Should be bulletproof on top.
