Oakland PD is apparently planning on switching from their trusty low-band to NJICS.

Timeline is set for Q1 of 2020 and they're planning to go with APXs.
Wonder if any more sites will be up in that area by then?

There's a couple planned on paper in Passaic County, and one with equipment already in place at Echo Lake Stables in West Milford/Newfoundland, but not on-air.

Interesting...what locations in Passaic County are the others planned for?
Any idea when the West Milford site is expected to go on-air?

Isn't there a site on top of Skyline Drive (Ramapo), just over the Oakland border with Ringwood?

Yes, and that site should give them pretty good coverage. The state will probably increase the number of channels on that site pretty soon because activity has dramatically increased on that site lately with MICCOM beginning to use ICS and all.

2020, that's a long way's Off! Wonder if FD and EMS will go off Lowband? FD has a highband fireground.

It sounds like EMS and FD are staying with lowband. The details are still a bit murky at this point, but I wouldn't put it past Oakland to transfer the PD's repeater to the FD or EMS, so they can use a repeater for toneouts/response instead of just simplex.

If one moves, I’m thinking they’ll all move. Makes for interops(if need be), and plus it’s Bergen County. If they can pay for PD, they can pay for Fire/EMS, and the DPW(which shared one channel dispatch). If anything would stay low band, it’d make sense for the DPW only, if they’re going to ICS.

Wonder if they’d keep the same channel layout: PD, Fire/EMS, and that Fire high-band VHF. And the DPW.

Just heard Bloomfield doing radio checks with Verona on the Verona talk groups. Didn’t catch the RID. They are getting closer.

What was learned from 9/11 was barely any agency even within an agency (NYC) could communicate with each other.

This is the entire reason for NJICS... INTEROPERABILITY between agencies, towns, counties, and the state. Plus, there are other benefits with range and clarity.

When Montclair EMS assists Verona or vice versa... it's a flip of a switch on the radio and they can communicate. The more towns that join NJICS and stop with their own system for political selfish reasons, they easier it will be to communicate across borders.

why would they be doing radio checks with Verona

To make sure the radio is properly programmed perhaps. I’ve personally had issues where a certain vendor when they programmed our radios...we went to use the “tac” talkgroup, and even though it was labeled as such, it was actually a completely different talkgroup. But it was kind of funny to hear a neighboring PD tell us we were on their tac and not ours and everyone was like “our display says blah blah.”

I guess you would think they would have TG to test the radios around town, or maybe they been issued a few radios for inter op abilities. have to wait and see
thanks

I logged a Bloomfield radio (RID 702322) getting denied on Telegraph Hill using TG 4795 today around 9:37AM. Second radio (RID 702320) was denied but no TG noted.
