I’ve asked this question many times for my county (Middlesex) in particular, especially since we don’t have a county dispatch u are forced to if u jump on their system. Tons of tax dollars are dumped into these systems to make them work as well as possible and less than half the county towns utilize it. It seems every town wants their own system to control no matter the cost vs cost savings of being on a larger centrally maintained system. Also notice town TG that are not used, my guess is they tried it and for whatever reason didn’t like it.
To stay on the thread topic when the state decided years ago to go ahead with the NJICS system they should have worked with each county who then have could have worked with their towns to try and get as many agencies on the state system as possible, think of the tax dollars saved if u cut all the individual town/county systems out in favor of the states.

I’ll be interested in seeing what happens with Passaic County. SO MANY different radio systems up here...

So in essence, if we want to listen to MONOC, We need to program all the sites in as the portables radios on the system bounce between site to site?

I have noticed that the talkgroup hang time when a radio de-affiliates is only minutes or shorter, compared to the 800 system, which has a hang time of around an hour or longer.

Forgive me if you guys know this already (possibly mentioned previously), but Plainfield Rescue Squad is dispatched & operates thorough JFK EMS Control now.

My good friend is an officer there, and was showing me the NJICS portables they went with. Shows how much I've been out of the loop on certain things, I had no idea Harris bought Tait (and is dual-branding the radios on the front cover).

I update the notes in the DB later...

I've heard Rumors Hawthorne PD is going to NJICS.

Hmm. That’s interesting. So at this point, rumors of Clifton, Wayne(interesting as well with t-band give back), and then. Interesting times indeed.

Seeing a bunch of new Radio ID's over the last few days. All affiliating with either A1-1 Div Call or C3-15 Parkway (getting denials on the parkway tg).

Would be great if Wayne and Clifton went. Unencrypted of course.

I could see Clifton joining ICS.

Wayne spent millions not even 10 years ago on their Phase 1 System.

Part of me thinks(like Bergen County would do) they’d just build their own system(like all the shore counties).

But again, it make much more sense logistically to just join ICS. The coverage is already there(site wise).

We’ll see.

Last I heard Wayne was not happy with the Harris System. Especially the FD. FD already had a member's portable catch on fire. Now with a West Milford site coming up, I could see the West Milford agencies going maybe since they are still on lowband, and lowband equipment is getting extinct. Apparently, they are primarily on 37.020 instead of the 5 watt VHF repeater according to RR database.

I can believe it. Wow, never knew that about the FD! Unfortunate indeed.

West Milford is a BIG town. The lowband has given them the coverage they need(AFAIK). But yeah, lowband and gear for it is becoming rarer by the day.

Their VHF portables(as I’m told) re-transmits on the low band. So basically listening to the highband is pointless(as it gets re-transmitted on lowband).

And yes, they are very active on their lowband. That’s all I monitor PD wise.

Just an FYI... Eatontown's council voted on the resolution authorizing the agreement between the town and NJICS last Wednesday. I am unsure of the time frame for switch over however.

Hey Castor.

Someone else here posted a short while ago about them moving to ICS. It’s apparently already planned

Correct I think JMR posted something. Just mentioned the council resolution because that kinda makes this official as opposed to rumor.

I'm logging some Plainsboro RID's (1218xxx) on Telegraph Hill site affiliating to the State Parks PD TGs today. I haven't looked through their township council minutes to see if there was any mentions of NJICS or not yet.

Why so you have to buy a more expensive radio to hear it?
They will be encrypted if they go what I heard.
So whats so great about that?
Currently all you need is something halfway decent and you're good.

I already have the radios to listen to them. Would just make it easier (for me) if they went to NJICS. Of course I would want them to be unencrypted. But if encrypted is the only choice, than I'd like them to stay as they are.

Just an FYI... Was doing some digging through Council Minutes and found that Clark authorized an agreement with Union County to join NJICS at their March 19, 2018 meeting. The resolution specifically said for "Emergency Squad, Office of Emergency Management, Police Department, Fire Department and Department of Public Works."

No timetable was listed in the resolution but another municipality to watch out for. They'll be 2002xxx RIDs when they come online.
