Eatontown PD is being simulcasted on their VHF as well as the TRS Until further notice due to coverage issues with the ICS system.

I was told tonight that Livingston is coming ”soon”, and will be encrypted. The same source also said West Orange is coming as well, but no exact times for either agency. We will see.

Is West Orange also expected to be encrypted? Is it just the police or is Fire also moving over in these towns?

My source has always been accurate, however, I will say, I have not seen any mention of changing over in Livingston council meeting minutes, or West Orange council for that matter. Who knows what’s really going on.

In actual sense, it would make sense for W Orange to move first. Their EDACS has been sounding like crap lately. Livingston’s VHF sounds pretty good to me.

Usually people hear testing on the system for a few weeks or months before any changeover takes place. I don't think there have been any reports from these towns yet.

West Orange Police and fire are on an old 800 EDACS system which will soon be totally obsolete.

My understanding, and I may be crossing two different things here in my head, is that Harris is ceasing all EDACS support entirely at the end of this year. So they're running out of time.

I have been hearing that for years. But then other people say there are plenty of spare EDACS parts "around" and it's not a big deal. So basically nobody really knows...

With the number of EDACS systems that have been removed from service in the last five years, I don't doubt it. However, it would mean that any service contracts and warrantied work by Harris themselves would possibly no longer have to be honored. I can see that becoming an issue for them depending on what agreements or resolutions have have established regarding the maintenance of the system.

But I agree, not THAT big of a deal. It's sounded like crap this long, why rush now? :D

As far as I have been told Fire and EMS will continue to operate on 154.755 PL 179.9 while the PD will move to NJICS and go with a big E on communications.

As mentioned in the main thread, Cranford Police have transitioned to the NJICS. Submission has been made. Cranford Fire (including Fire EMS) will begin going direct through the NJICS shortly. Cranford VFAS will continue to use the Fire UHF-NJICS simulcast/patch for the time being.

Just curious, I have been messing around with pro96com on some of the trunked systems here in north jersey. Anyone know why the state NJICS control channels show up on the Jersey City Trunked System now when I run the program on 470.2625. I was thinking maybe they are linking the JC stuff for future.

That doesn't look right to me. Could be residual from previously decoding the West Orange simulcast. I would start with a clean decoding of the Jersey City system to see if those 700 MHz channel reappear. Also, take a look at the peers or adjacent sites to see if anything is listed there.

Even if the systems are linked via ISSI, the frequencies would not be mixed together in that fashion.
