I have a VHF XTS5000 and was given the NMN6250A Public Safety RSM to work with the NTN8327 antenna adapter the radio came with...
the radio has the 8.5" long wideband motorola antenna, useful for local ham repeaters and able to connect to VHF towers for the statewide trunking system which my Search and Rescue team is on. the antenna sits on the antenna adapter, directly on the radio, not using the RSM, everything works great.
i wondered about using the NMN6250A RSM... but the long antenna on this RSM would be at best awkward... so I thought i could get some stubby antenna for the RSM when i'm using it and just leave the the 8.5" long antenna in place on top of the NTN8327 adapter... but I started to wonder what the impact of that would be.
does the radio use both antennas at the same time? does the radio detect the RSM and only use the RSM's antenna? but, i've read that i could use the RSM without the antenna (but that assumed no antenna adapter).
my desire moving forward is to get another (shorter) VHF antenna for the RSM, with the idea that I can can just throw it on as needed and then fall back on the large antenna when i take it off. but i'm worried that some operational detail is being overlooked in my plan.
so... anyone know the intracasies on how this RSM works operationally?
and, does anyone have a model number for a stubby wideband VHF Motorola antenna that I can use with it?
thanks,
Richard
