930P local: VSP had a person on the shoulder of I66 main line westbound, who then pulled a gun and apparently shot himself in the head. It’s just west of exit 47 at the 47.2 mile marker. Fairfax 1 helo had been responding but a couple of minutes ago told their dispatch that they were no longer being requested, so were back in service. All lanes of I66 westbound are shut down at exit 47 (route 234) where all traffic is being forced to exit.
Thanks! I was stuck in this shutdown. I have been looking online for any info on what had caused the shutdown and not finding anything. Just to add; I observed two wrecked police vehicles with air bags deployed in the west bound lanes of I-66. One was marked VSP Ford Taurus the other an unmarked Ford Expedition. I wonder what actually happened?

There is a developing situation on Pennycress Lane in the St. Louis area of Loudoun. It came in around 1115 with the caller saying he had spread gasoline throughout the house and was threatening to ignite it, also has a shotgun . The area is being treated as a hot zone so FD units are currently staged well away.

LCSO was in contact with the subject by phone. The subject is extremely agitated, said he has a zip tie around his neck, has 5 gallons of gas, and a shotgun in his lap, then he hung up.

1212- Subject came out and is now in LCSO custody.
There is a stronger odor of gasoline coming from the house.

^ Interesting to hear LCFRS FMs on an LCSO channel. LCFRS doesn't have LE channels in their radios.

I’ve heard them on LCSO channels in the past - most recently on the domestic homicide. A few FMs responded when the call went out and were among the first on scene.

Fire rescue responding to house fire on Virginia Rose Pl in the Brambleton area of Loudoun. Callers report an explosion followed by fire.
LCSO reporting 23410 is fully involved.

Fairfax1 is above the area, they were passing by while RTB after helping LCSO with a search in Hillsboro.

2203- 300ft of line is flowing water. All three floors of the home are are on fire on the back side ("C").
Line being run to Tower619.

2208- Defensive ops only now, protecting exposures, starting 2nd alarm.

2220- Fire is knocked, shutting down the master stream from TW619, going to offensive ops and making entry.

2230- TT620 added to the call to replace TW436 which had a mechanical issue just down the road from the scene.

LCSO had a K9-101 assisting on the event with Fairfax 1 last night.
I’ve heard a broad range of K9 callsigns for LCSO, K9- single, double, and triple digit as well as K9-Tac-2 and other similar ones. Assuming those are detective or SERT K9s.

The “K9 Tacs” are from the Tactical Enforcement Unit:

“As part of the [Field Operations Division], the Special Operations Section has a Narcotics Detection K-9's assigned to the Tactical Enforcement Unit. (sic) The K-9 is used to assist Narcotics Detectives during investigations and search warrants.”

I thought they got rid of the TEU? Or did they just start referring to it as Gangs and Narcotics without actually changing it?

Armed Robbery in Reston about 30 minutes ago. At least one subject was armed with a machete. FCPD may have one of the suspects detained.

This is the DC Photos plane. About Us | DC Aerial Photos
I'm surprised this isn't mentioned in the news story.

I'll try finding some audio later.

Delayed - shooting in FFX Co around 6:30 pm last night. Shots were fired, possibly a hit with multiple shooters or a shootout, at a soccer game happening at Hutchison ES. The crowd panicked and fled. Shooters were not believed to be connected to the game other than possibly spectating. Initial reports of two shot, but officers only found one person shot (GSW to the leg). Vic was not an intended target. At least 4 suspects ran into dense woods nearby. FFX 1 found heat signatures from all 4 and guided officers to all of them over the course of an hour. From the radio traffic sounds like it was excellent team work. Herndon PD, MWAA PD, and LCSO all responded to assist in the perimeter. All 4 were taken into custody without incident and transported to Reston District Station. Unclear if any weapons were found and if any/all ultimately faced charges. To my knowledge, FCPD has not released any news items regarding this.

OT but noticed on Monday that Fairfax Co changed the gateway patch between STARS and their 800 MHz systems. They were doing tests much of the day on FRFX3 (and the Fairfax 3 patch). The audio seems to be much better, as noted by the radio shop on Monday ("sounds pretty good, it's a lot better than the old gateway"). The FRFX 3 patch had been screwed up for several months, I wonder if that problem spurred the change?

Patch RIDs:

3172147 FRFX 1
3172148 FRFX 2
3172149 FRFX 3
