Cal Fire MEU & HUU fightling several lightning caused fires in Northern Mendocino & Southern Humboldt counties...
Air attack 110 (Mendocino Unit) along with Humboldt air attack in a running battle...
Fires are generally along or near Bell Springs Road...I've heard of 6 incidents so far stretching from Chimney Rock to Island Mtn & Jewitt Road areas...this srea is near the 2008 Red Mountain fire Complex
The area got lightning & thunder last night and today (Wednesday)...
In 2008 this area was hit hard in the "Lightning Complex Fires", where several firefighters died, including one local firefighter on the Red Mountain incident that died of a heart attack while on the fire lines...300 fires in Mendocino County alone, and over 3,000 fires in Ca total from Monterey to Alturas...
Like then, right now these current fires are being triaged...some of them have very rough if not impossible access, so the main efforts are from the Air Attack. Some crews can't gain access today, so they'll try again in the morning...
CDF Command-8 & Tac-2 are being used a lot, besides Red (Fire-Ground)...
Lots of Virga falling here & there throughout the day, some of it hit the ground as rain...
Right NOW at my location 87°, 20mph wind gusts, winds variable E-NE-NW-W...35 to 35% humidity, Baro steady at 29.89
