NXDN

Anyone have any ideas/views on "Digital Thresholds" for NXDN? Like I went from Auto to Manual and 7 and signal was worst and then Put back on Auto and 8 and worked.... What's everyone view?

And then Change the band plan 150.8 from 12.5 to 7.5 KHz since the Agency is 156.2235 and 155.8875 Mhz and works like a charm.

I haven't found any reason to use anything but Auto for threshold setting.

On the 436, what audio type is the channel set to?

When I posted it was set to auto
I have tried it on nfm and haven’t heard anything on either radio in a few hours since I made the change even trx is silent so not sure if just no traffic on system tonight or what

BCD 436 encryption issues

I'm having the same issues as Sofa King with recording Fed tx and while it mutes the audio it is still recording the tx that are encrypted instead of just the clear comms.

Are you trying to receive the Tn D7 NXDN system? I have hand programmed the sites along the Tn River and plan to do testing Friday to see how it works. I will post back.

Let me clarify this. Auto seems to be the best choice so far for non-simulcast P25, DMR and NXDN, but for simulcast P25, Manual set to whatever value corresponds to lowest decode error rate when you have Auto set seems to be better than Auto--simulcast still makes the Auto threshold value jump around a lot.

I don't have any simulcast DMR or NXDN to see if a manual setting improves simulcast decode for those modes.

On the 2 p25 p1 and p2 simulcast sites that i have tested this 436 on, manual and level 5 did the best for me. On an EDACS simulcast system, manual and level 3 works best. Ymmv....

The optimal manual threshold value seems to be specific to each site. For Franklin County, the best manual value for the "Simulcast" site is 10, but the best manual value for the "Mt. Quirak" site (which also seems to be simulcast), is a tie between 8 and 9, using the monitor-the-decode-error-rate-in-Auto-mode method.

No such thing as "AUTO" for the audio type. ALL, ANALOG, or DIGITAL.

I took a little drive down to Kingston Springs Area last night and checked out the KS repeater. After using the LCN finder feature in analyze I was up and running on that repeater. It worked very well. Heard more Dickson Co than Cheatham but both come in nice and clear. It’s a job well done by Uniden.

Hey scan-pa,

What settings are you using for ns rr nxdn?

Audio setting?

Did you set a ran?

Modulation setting?

Digital waiting?

Auto threshold?

Thanks

Was told they do not use RAN, should be code free, but have seen 2, 3, 5 so far. Auto for decode.

I see that the upgrade is $30 now, and will be $60 when the Sentinal is updated. I hope to have a scanner in the next couple of weeks. Any history on how long it takes to upgrade Sentinal following a firmware update like this? I'd like to take advantage of the $30 savings.

Dig wait time set to 100ms if you have them setup as digital only.

Modulation should be NFM. Digital threshold should be Auto.

If you set audio option to digital, the Wait Time setting is ignored. It is only used if you set the audio option to All (both digital and analog).

Railroads generally use low power and directional antennas aimed along the tracks, so unless you are close to the tracks or using a directional antenna, you probably aren't going to get a clear signal. You can only hear the talking defect detectors and trains if they are within 5 miles or so with a handheld or mobile antenna, even on analog.
