That was the radio he had. He was off-duty on a security detail at a bank.

I would suspect it was a radio he bought for himself to monitor the PD while working at the bank. Or, it may be a radio provided by the bank on their security frequency.

Why not? Back with the MX300 was built they were built to last. As long as the radio has a good batt and its specs have unchanged I don't see a problem with it. With that radio if you drop it you don't have to worry about it breaking.

You may not have actually seen this radio on the officer. It is possible you saw a vertex vx537 scuffed up with all the paint scratched off. When the vx537 gets scuffed up and the paint gets warn off you can see the silver metal frame which looks similar to the MX300 since it too has a metal housing.

Yeah, no. Thats a MX300 series radio.

He probably never turned the radio in when he retired.LOL I have a bunch of MX series in all flavors and sizes. I have some that say NYPD and some that have NYCTA on them, as well as NCPD and others. They are collectables, one of my friends won the bid on over 4K NYPD ones years back, and he sold them on E-bay for years. All the crystals were pulled, so they didn't work. As a working radio to use they are OK till 1-1-13, (unless NYPD get their wavier, which I suspect they will) they were workhorses.

Yes, I do understand that the photo he posted is in fact of a Motorola MX300. I just don't think an officer has any need to carry that radio on him when the department issues every officer with there own radio.

PJH,

The Vertex radio you posted a photo of is not the Vertex Vx537. That is the VX520.
