I got my BCT15 today!

The backlight is much better than I expected. I am happy with it.

WOW What a scanner! I am glad I got it. It looks awesome on the scanner stand I got from Ron. The BR330T, BCD396T on top with the BCT15 below, what a set up.

I am very pleased! Audio is very good and LOUD! This thing seems really sensitive. I just checked the NOAA repeaters in my area, I can usually hear 3, with the BCT15 I am getting 4. But this could be the conditions too? It is picking up some distant VHF-High stations I usually monitor very clear.

I haven't bit the UASD bullet yet. I hate spending $30 for something I use once. 99% of the time, I program the scanner, then never use the software again. But I have too many frequencies to enter by hand, about 75% of the memory I would guess. That is way too much. I will likely break down and buy the UASD because ARC15 isn't due out until September. That's too long for me to wait.

DANG. They should offer a 1 time use key or something for like $5. I would go for that.

Oh well, I am enjoying the scanner!

Well I opted to go with UASD since it was out NOW. I hated spending the $30 for it, but there is no way I was going to program 2469 frequenices with text, not counting dividing it all up into systems and groups. So, $30 gone.

Here are some pics of what I got (as always, I appoligize for the crappy pics). I got a Pro-2055 too, but haven't decided what to do with it yet. Possibly mobile? Possibly sell? Possibly trade it off for something else.

Ron, You are going to love the BCT15. It is awesome. I went ahead and bought the UASD for the BCT15. I didn't want to, but I did it anyway. Let me know what you think once you get it.

Safetyobc,
Took you all of an hour to resist loading that baby with UASD!!
The beauty of UASD is how easy it is to intermingle the 396,330, and 15 files.
Congratulations on receiving the 15. I know you were biding the time until it arrived.
I'm very happy with mine as well.
Looking forward to your review. Wish I had the patience to complete such well thought out reviews!

Any problem with the nearby computer causing frequency latch-up?

NOPE! Not at all. this thing is 10 times better than the Pro-2055 was about that.

I think (too early to really tell) that it is more sensitive too! This thing is awesome! I can't say enough about it. Connecting the Scantenna between the BR330T and the BCT15, the BCT15 is pulling signals out of the air that the BR330T isn't breaking squelch.

With the Pro-2055 connected to the Scantenna, it would constantly stop on annoying interference. The BCT15, I have had only a couple frequencies that I had to adjust on, but other than that, it is great.

I was looking to replace my bc780xlt with the new BCT15. Question is if I can use my existing mounting bracket or will this scanner be slightly larger/smaller then my 780xlt? Thanks!

The BCT-15 is wider then the 780 by (I think) 1/2".

A quick question... apologies if it's already been answered:

Does the trial version of the UASD BCT-15 software allow for sample entries by naming a single system "CONV" for conventional, etc., as the 246T software did?

Already downloaded the UASD software and manual -- looks like a pretty amazing scanner.

Thanks in advance!

I took some pictures when I first got my 996 - I think the brightest setting of orange is about the same color as the BC246T, the handheld is a bit brighter.

Surely no hint of red in mine ;) ; I will get the BCT15 added once it arrives, I assume it will be the same LEDs though.

If it were parked next to bct-8 with the yellow display, The bct15 might look reddish orange in comparison... Yaesu Orange might be an acceptable color.
but these companies, Uniden, and Yaesu really need to stop with the false red display illusion! Show the radios as they are! I mean it's like telling a lie! You are expecting RED, Your hopes are up that it will match up to the 8 other radios in your shack that glow in red! You open it up and turn it on and it's ORANGE! That's dishonest!

That is a good comparison. It is about the same color

It is close to the BR330T, but it is different. You can see it really well, but if you mount it in the vehicle, be careful the angle you look at it, if it is at the wrong angle, you'll have a tough time seeing the screen. It just fades out at certain angles. Straightaway, it is crystal clear, large text, very easy to read. Get at a 45 degree angle, and you can't see the text anymore.

I love how I can see the text and the frequency now! Thanks for that Uniden.

Received my BCT15 today from the brown truck of joy. Woohoo!

After a quick check to make sure the unit turned on and picked up signals, I programmed it with a local conventional system using the trial version UASD software.

First impression: What an awesome scanner! A big thank you to Uniden and Paul for bringing such great products to market!

Second impression: My router and computer still give me RF hell.

Third impression: No longer do I have to kick myself for selling my 780! :)

The BCT15 is really solid & put together well, and is smaller than I thought it would be. And the price point -- oh so sweet. Audio is loud and clear through the stock speaker and VHF-high reception is on par with the Pro-2054 I have been using.

More to follow as I learn it...
