Certainly is strange to look at. The pigtails are so low-profile, I suspect in the bed area of a pickup is the last place you would want them. Sounds like job security for somebody who'll be replacing broken pigtails pretty often. Still say i've never seen anything quite like it...but that's MDOT for you.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the radiation pattern is going to be... less than circular. :D

Just like mounting where most agencies mount on pickups... hood.... Except with hood mounting there may be engine noise.. Though 90% of agencies use the hood mounting,.. Go figure LOL.

Yea, i've seen the MHP pickups before, but as you pointed out, there is rationale to what MHP does with it's truck. I doubt seriously that same rationale is being applied in the case of MDOT. The trucks ive seen are pickup trucks with toolboxes. At the very least, they could've put them in the center of the tool box. Can hardly wait for that bunch of stump jumpers to start talking on those new radios. They use their radio call sign on every single call and they're like the Natchez Trace Parkway folks, everything is bass akwards when it comes to base to mobile communications.....should be fun

Oh Joy, LWIN ducting into Jackson Co. on MSWIN CC. On a 800 Yagi pointed pretty much due south no less.

Some pretty decent ducting forecast for the next several days BTW. Especially for the "boot heel" counties.

That explains why I was picking up Hancock County from Ocean Springs tonight on the way to work.

Also for the record, freq 770.15625 can be added in the database for Raymond (site 208). The other four, currently listed in the database for that site, are accurate.

Incidentally, Jackson (site 145) is down. Not sure if that's permanent or temporary. Didn't seem to make much difference as there was very little activity to report for Saturday, 4/17/10....LOL

Cool, and thanks once again for your continued efforts hugh. :)

Interesting about Jackson. There was some mention about some work that needed to be finalized on that site in a recent WCC meeting minutes so possibly that has something to do with it?

Site Update

Here's one site in Vicksburg that's online. Hopefully this helps with the process. There's also a couple of talkgroups that I caught with this that need to be identified.

New tower registered for the MWCC today. 20119 Yazoo City. ASR # 1273992

Strange Sharon isn't listed as constructed yet either. ToM taking up the WCC's bad habits? LOL

Natchez north tower

A while back, I questioned the height of Natchez N tower. I believe it was reported that it was in the 318 ft range. Today I was in that area and checked the elevation. The base of the tower is actually 369 ft. That pretty well explains the phenomenal coverage coming from that site.:p

Natchez south, while clearly a much taller tower, is in the 120 ft elevation range at its base. However, coverage is not nearly as impressive as Natchez N.

What will be interesting is when Yazoo City comes online as that will also be amazing coverage... Just because of terrain. That YC ridgeline, then FLATTTTTTTTTTTT! LOL

Jeanette tower site in Adams Co. has an unbelievable base elevation of 429 feet. Curious about some of the MSWIN base elevations in the Southeast corner, if any body knows them.
