Just as a FYI their COW is online in Yazoo City with a CC of 770.96875c.

I guess you mean SOW (Site on wheels) and I take it is the x98 SOW by that CC freq.? Is the tower ID still 198 or did they change it to 298?

Yeah, in the Cellular world we call them COW's (Communication on Wheels) and then we have SAT COW's where the backhaul is feed via Satellite. I believe the site id was 198.

About 8:25 a.m this morning a DMR unit is on it's way to Horn Island with 3 Towers of Misssippi personnel onboard. A few minutes later the QA 10401 was briefly active with some talk about fixing up some ice chests with drinks etc.

The traffic on TGs 10401 & 10423 is originating from an MDOT convention being hosted in Natchez.

MDOT has several shuttle buses moving the guests back and forth between the Hampton Inn and you'll also hear references to the Grand Hotel and the Eola. The convention includes DOT officials from all around the country. Actually one of the larger conventions for this area in quite some time.

Ah ok that explains the traffic I'm hearing of that nature. And thanks for the feedback. :)

Seems to be another unrelated user doing some work on the system too on 10401. Our I'm totally taking what they are saying out of context. Heard something about adding onto to the end of the (cable, I assume) tray, and getting some zip ties and tying it down. (like they are running some cable somewhere). Also heard somebody unsucessfully trying to raise "green machine" which I assume is the Greene County machine.

On an unrelated note I believe I actually laid eyes on the RC-26 I spoke of in the TGID thread yesterday as it was flying towards the east about halfway between the coast and the barrier islands. If it wasn't it is sure missed a good opportunity to be it as it is a pretty distinctive looking plane. LOL

Also had a CAP plane fly right over my head a little later. :)

Ok a MNG big wheel is in a boat heading to Ship Island and talking about having radio coverage out there and "hope they have the repeater setup up out there". So I guess that explains what ToM is doing. :)

Also some traffic about the RC-26 and approvals and such. Couldn't really gather if the context was approval to get one requistioned for them to use or they actually have one and are awaiting approval to start using it for their missions instead of the helos they've been using.

"Green machine"

The context for the "green machine" is a green-colored Ford Escape that is totally "green-powered." MDOT is apparently using the vehicle for shuttle purposes. I've seen it around town at several of the Natchez motels.

MDOT is certainly putting MSWIN to the test. I've heard their units communicating between Natchez and Jackson all day. They're sending shuttles up to the Jackson airport to pickup convention guests and bring them back to Natchez. This convention is unbelievably large for Natchez.

Wow it's been a very interesting day in radio land today :)

First off as I type this the radio guys (ToM I assume) are in the process of aligning the microwave dishes(ODU's in their lingo) on the island site. Still not sure if it's Ship or Horn Island. Talk of TX/RX frequencies of 11.595/11.105 GHz I presume. Fountainbleau's path to Vancleave uses 11 GHz so I assume the path they are trying to establish is to that site.

MDOT ran the radio guys off of 10401 finally this afternoon and they went to 10503. That was fun to listen to. :D Some chitchat from the radio guys with a fellow named Ed, the guy that told them to use 10401 in the first place led to discovering that channel is an "Events" channel. (10401 is 5 on the big knob btw, 10503 is 3 on the big knob. LOL)

The National Guards efforts to bring one of their RC-26's into the fray is not going as well as hoped. Typical beauracratic BS for the most part it seems, who's gonna authourize it, who's gonna pay for it etc. etc. The guard guys are starting to get more than a little pissed over the whole situation. Their appears to be a shoot out between the RC-26 and CAP's "Archer" system forming for tomorrow. When asked about authourizing that the senior guy said "F*** yeah, bring it on" :D They are certainly very proud and confident in their surveilance system and from what little I've read about they very well should be.

Bad thing is now that ToM has been run off of that channel I don't get to hear them anymore it seems.:lol:

OMG the manufacturer shipped them the wrong ODU's. (Outdoor Unit's) Needless to say some folks are not at all thrilled about this discovery.

ok maybe this isn't so bad, they've swapped ODU's and TX/RX freqs. and are trying again now. Seems it was serial number screw of some sort so they had the right stuff but it was marked wrong or some such thing.

Are we ready to start "swinging" at Fountainbleu? so yep the path is to that site.
MW link being established and fine tuned now.
Still trying to peak signals....

Ship Island it is, DMR is 10-6 at Ship Island pier "waiting on this tower crew"

I wonder...do they fine tune the aiming mechanically at the ODU mounting point on the tower or do they do that electronically from the radio shed? They're having a hard time it seems either way.
OK I think this was just answered by the ToM guys, they are "climbing" everything down now so I guess it takes place at the ODU mounting location.

WELL....I guess it's Horn Island ??? Sounded like Ed that just asked if everything was ok on Horn Island, and the reply was yes with a voltage reading. I guess DMR just tied up at Ship awaiting ToM to call them to pick them up. Been a long time since I been to Horn but back then I never knew of a pier there so no place for the DMR boat to tie up and wait?

Calling it a night. Going to work on the link from here (island) to the offshore site tomorrow.

I just over heard one guy ask "is everything alright out there on horn island" and the response was "yeah"

edit: heh I see you're still listening to them too. You were quicker to the keys than me on that one.

You can add TG 10423 to the special events list. According to Pro96Com, that TG, today, has registered just about as many hits as 10401.
