David, let me also express appreciation for your info. I've expressed concerns about the implementation of the MSWIN and a lot of overkill aspects that I feel have slowed its progress. I keep hearing about the FEMA issues, not sure about the merits of any of that. I, too, am very excited about the entire project, not just as a scanning enthusiast, but someone who knows that better public safety communication for Mississippi is long overdue ............It just seems to me that somebody in a position to could put a higher priority on the project, since adequate funding doesn't seem to be the issue...

there are some things that create slow downs, i have heard that the biggest issue is new tower construction and land acquisition. since they have not started up here, i dunno if that is the truth or not though.

The broadband system has a name btw.
Mississippi Education, Safety and Health Network (MESHNet)
Executive Office of the State of Mississippi | BroadbandUSA - NTIA
75 more new towers over and above the ~135 MSWIN towers.
The State of Mississippi’s MESHNet project aims to deploy a 700 MHz interoperable public safety wireless broadband network to every public safety agency in the state. The project will build 75 new towers and be deployed in tandem on 134 towers with the state’s 700 MHz public safety Land Mobile Radio system, and expects to provide an average of 1 Mbps to user equipment in public safety vehicles moving at speeds up to 55 mph with 95 percent reliability.
The enhanced public safety system proposes to provide first responders and law enforcement officials with live streaming video capabilities, situational awareness during critical events, Computer Aided Dispatching, mapping and field reporting capabilities, and immediate database access to information for tactical response to routine and emergency situations.

It didn't really pique my interest on the first pass, but now in light of other recent news there was this from the MWCC MWCC's July meeting minutes too.
Chairman Epps called for Mr. Roach to provide the MSWIN Project Update. Mr. Roach noted that
approval has been received on twenty-five (25) of the tower sites submitted for FEMA EHP review. There
are currently no requests in queue for FEMA EHP approval but approximately six (6) will be ready for
submission in a couple of weeks. Phase 2A is in the final inspection stage and acceptance is expected
within the next two weeks. Mr. Roach also shared that work is being done on the broadband proposal
that the WCC entered into with the Governor’s Office. That application is in NTIA Due Diligence at this
time. Work has also started on the conditions of the FCC Waiver that was received for the use of
spectrum owned by the Public Safety Spectrum Trust for broadband implementation. The Interoperability
Showing Document, which is a requirement of the waiver, is being worked on now. Mr. Roach stated that
they are considering beginning a RFP for 700 MHz LTE equipment for issue in case we get the
broadband stimulus funds.

Port Gibson tower

Port Gibson tower has been constructed:lol: However, still not broadcasting since construction was obviously started and finished within the last 7-10 days.

That sucker went up fast. Traveled that way on 8/26/10 and there was no sign of any activity.

The two Vicksburg sites are probably next. Currently nothing to report at either Warren Co. site, however.

Nice to finally hear of some progress on that front. :D
From what you've reported in the past, and with what little I have also seen, it seems erecting the tower is the quickest step of the overall process. IIRC the 2 Warren Co. sites are some the oldest registered in the queue so it stands to reason they will be among the first to go up now that we're past all of this site approval madness.
Also FYI all the previously reported microwave license applications are now approved. This should pretty much complete all of the legal mumbo jumbo for Troop C & H territory, or near abouts anyway.

Some crazy ol' fool finally got of his lazy arse and went and put up a MSWIN feed on here. :p

Hope you enjoy and PLEASE let me know how it sounds etc. Unfortunately not much to hear after "normal" working hours at present. For the time being MSWIN is on the right channel of a stereo feed with alpha tags. I may at any time throw something up on the left channel out of the blue. I'll change the description to reflect that if I do.

Well, well, well. After many months of nothing more than a few antenna structure registrations being granted, we FINALLY have one with a change of status to CONSTRUCTED!!! :D

A bit of a surprise too. It is the Lake Cavalier site just outside of Ridgeland. Entered as constructed on 9/1/10
ASR Registration 1274938

Can definitely confirm Vicksburg MDOT, just visited it a couple of hours ago. Don't know what the reference to MDOT is, other than it is on state right of way. It's not near any of MDOT's maintenance facilities or truck scales in that area. Seems a little strange that they're referencing MDOT in the tower name. And I've already reported Port Gibson as being constructed. So far only one microwave dish installed on Port Gibson none on Vicksburg south, yet.

MDOT's working overtime on a convention is Natchez. You'll hear their shuttle bus and convention personnel talking on TG 10410. They're shuttling people in from the Jackson and Baton Rouge airports. They're also shuttling the convention goers all around town. They'll probably be here thru the weekend for the big hot air balloon race. However, not sure if the radio traffic is going system wide.............

it won't go system wide, only to towers with a registered radio affliated to that TG. it is possible to have a TG in the scan list and never hear traffic on it if your radio has another TG selected and no one else on the same site is affliating with the desired TG. this is how the system keeps from overloading all the towers. many sites only have 3-6 channels, and if all conversations were simulcast on all sites everyone would get busies.

the simple explaination is that when you select a TG on a radio it tells the tower what TG it is on. the zone controller then knows to send traffic for that TG to the tower your radio is connecting with. if no radio requests that TG on a tower, then the traffic is not routed to any repeaters. this is why sometimes we hear traffic on multiple sites, while other times some of the sites appear not to be carrying it.

Here's 45 mintues of recording data for this location. Hope this helps!!

Also one quick question: When MSWIN goes p2, are the lights going to go out on us listeners?
