Hmm...Just noticed something...

So I've been getting occasional but fairly regular traffic from the Perry SO on the Benndale tower when a mobile comes into range of that tower. Or at least I thought that was how it was working.

I just now noticed that I am hearing, and logging ONLY the Perry SO dispatcher's side of a LOT of convos and hardly any of the units she has been talking to today.

So now I wonder, is this a system malfunction of some sort, or by design?

Keep in mind this behavior is happening on 2 different scanners. A 500 parked on the CC and sending data to PRO96Com and a 197 I'm listening on.

Seems to be a decent band opening this morning down here on the coast at least. Anyone who can may want to flip through all the known MSWIN control channels and see if anything new pops up. :)

Marvin -- I heard them guys most of the afternoon talking. I was listening to them on Bay Springs and Ellisville. It really sounded like MBN, but I could be wrong. I did see one of them and he was in a gold vic. They were running tags and stuff, so it was defiantly a LE agency.

I got that one today on sites around me too. Mainly the only thing I heard was a couple of guys talking about where to go for lunch and one of them going to pick up his wife for lunch. That was somewhere in the 11:00 hour.Whoever it is there must be several units around since we are all hearing them.

Although it's stopped now I've been getting a good bit of traffic on the Capital PD group down this way as well for the last 2-3 days now too.

Thanks!

A little reminder too. Phase 2B coverage testing should be commencing at any time now, if hasn't already begun. I suspect this will occur mostly on the 10001-10005 range of talkgroups as it has in the past. Still need proper names for these channels too.

Testing being done in Pearl River County

Is this system actually being built out? Anyone know where it's active yet?

I've been looking at getting an inexpensive scanner to supplement my listening in the Grenada area, where it seems there are no trunked systems in use.

If the state's system is up and running, I may wait and save up for one that can do digital trunk tracking. (Is there such a best for 700 MHz yet?)

They are testing the MSWIN with the Pearl River
County Sheriffs Office in Mississippi now. here is an article in the Picayune Item that gives a little information. (picauneitem.com).

I am really confused with the change. I have a Pro96 scanner but don't know what to change to continue receiving transmissions.

With a PRO-96 you will have to manually monitor the freqs for your repeater site. The 96/2096 can NOT track 700 MHz TRS, or 380 MHz TRS. Sorry about that.

PEARL RIVER COUNTY — Implementation of a new statewide radio communication system is being tested in Pearl River County.

The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department is giving the system a test run, which could bring about a replacement of the 12-year-old VHF high band system now used in the county.

Hmm, not sure what's up with that? 700 MHz pretty much has to be digital given narrowbanding and all that.

I do know I've heard several times now one user telling another to go to car-to-car channel on the MDOT-E talkgroup. So I assume they are using 700 simplex channels for that. There is a whole plethora of simplex channels in the state's bandplan too. I've yet to take the time to load them in a scanner yet though.

Also there is pretty strong ducting going on right now so no telling what you might be hearing. Could even be LWIN.

Another thing that could be happening with the ducting is different sites channels "crashing" into each other so to speak. I know that happens to me on certain control channel freqs when conditions are like they are now. They basically come in so strong they cancel each other out.

I'm decoding Seminary as I type this now and the 769.69375 is still an alt CC for it. As you likely know.
