Incidentally, info concerning Troop M tower at Brookhaven substation being used for MSWIN is incorrect. Tower is on west side of I-55 near Troop M. The tower at the substation is still just the old ground plane for low band.

Half D-9 Now live

OK guys thanks to Hugh, we know at least half of the District 9 Troop M sites are alive, and that means that they all will be soon. We still need verification on the rest of D-9, and desperately need info on the rest of D-7's zone... The Highway 84 corridor East of Brookhaven, and the Highway 49 corridor North of Hattiesburg.

Just the Marine one.. It now has its primary and unit to unit tg's thus far.. two other encrypted tg's were noted, but have not been active in a while so were apparently for testing. The newer sites being verified are using a different SysID than the original FEMA supplied sites. Also of note is that all the Phase I sites are IDing in the 1XX range, and the Phase II sites are all IDing in the 0XX range... So as as soon as at least all the Phase II, lower half sites come online, and are trunking, we should be able to identify Zones clearer. Keep watching guys.

MSWIN southwest Miss. update

Worthy of note, still no activity in the Natchez area. Will continue to monitor and keep posted. I'm amazed at how quickly the tower network is going up in this area. From what I've observed the crews appear to be working around the clock. Must have a contract deadline to meet.

Now that TV is digital they are rolling on getting the bottom half of the Phase II up... Upper half is doing site checking and prep for construction... Active construction should begin by January on at least three sites. I cant remember the link to get the newest tower map for the upper half of Phase II. The other two Jefferson towers should be comming online pretty quickly, and the two Natchez towers should also be up soon.. Anyone that travels the Highway 84 corridor East of Brookhaven give a listen out there. Also the sites down 583 etc, heading towards Hattiesburg...

Wildlife and fisheries

Miss. Wildlife and Fisheries very active on TGID #16 in the Brookhaven to McComb area. Units are x'mitting to the Jackson office dispatch from the southern parts of the state. Pretty similar to how it was back in the old days when they used low band. Sounded pretty neat.

Well actually it's a lot different and better than the old days, because you can hear both sides of the conversation.

I would love to be sitting in say F&W 590's truck and compare how the MSWIN sounds compared to the SatNet. TG added! TY Hugh!

Anything is possible, I suppose. Please PM me with what's involved. I have a Uniden 396 that's in the shop right now. Would probably be ideal, since I don't care much for using it in the field.

Milf, (FYI) I am discovering more and more that there are huge diffences in the info that the Pro-106 can decode vs. the Pro 96/2096. The major discrepancy is the site #'s, the Pro 96 always provides a three digit site #, starting with 1, however the Pro 106 consistently drops the 1 and uses only the last two digits to describe the site #. Thus, you may be getting incorrect info from folks using the Pro 96. I have used both and I'm assuming the Pro 106 is providing more reliable data. So from this date foward I will only post info gathered from the 106. That's unfortunate, because the Pro 96 decodes quicker and provides the info in a easier to read format, I've found.

Clarion-Ledger reports on MSWIN

Emergency statewide radio system ready between Jackson, Gulf Coast

Jimmie E. Gates • jgates@clarionledger.com • August 24, 2009 Almost four years after Katrina slammed the Coast and other areas, towers are in place in the southern part of the state for the radio system, said Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps, chairman of the 16-member Wireless Communications Commission, which is overseeing the project.
"We are rapidly moving with that system," Epps said. "It's going well."
Once the system is fully installed, it will provide coverage to 97 percent of the state.
Harrison County Emergency Management Director Rupert Lacy said the U.S. Department of Marine Resources and some Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol units are using the new radio system.
"There is progress," Lacy said. "We just can't get too antsy."
After Katrina hit, there was no way for emergency personnel to communicate other than through direct contact or letter.
No one wants to see another disaster like Katrina, but Epps said that if one on that scale does occur, a runner won't be needed for communication.
The Gulf Coast is getting new towers and equipment first, then the system will branch northward throughout the state. The process will continue for up to five years.
All the roughly 115 communication tower sites have been installed in south Mississippi.
"With a simple turn of the radio knob, a Mississippi Emergency Management Agency official could talk to the Harrison County Emergency Operations Center, the Hinds County Sheriff's Department or Tupelo Police Department," Gov. Haley Barbour said when he signed the contract with Motorola.
"Reliable communications mean a quicker response time, which will help save lives and deliver time-sensitive information during a crisis."
Barbour is expected to have a news conference on the Gulf Coast on Saturday, the fourth anniversary of Katrina coming ashore, to demonstrate the capabilities of the new radio system, Epps said.
Motorola won the contract in November 2006.
The system is slated to have capacity for 64,000 users, but the system can be expanded to add additional users, and the system has emergency power backup for transmission sites.
Motorola will provide, install and test equipment from towers, transmitters and dispatch consoles down to in-car and handheld radios.

So as of now, at least 130 sites with more coming online, at least 20 sites are the original FEMA set up,.... Agencies online now are as far as we know- MHP Troop K, BMR, WF&P, Most likely also MHP Troop J, and M will be on asap. We know that at least one Natchez area site is up as it was used for the interop test with the LWIN,... Or maybe it was an mobile site.... We know the state has three to four mobile MSWIN units, and hopefully we will nail down what they use freq wise. Phase I completed and fully trunking, phase II almost halfway done and almost all of those sites online and trunking.

We can expect to be hearing MEMA, MHP J,K, and M as well as MWF&P, and possibly some MDOT units as well as BMR, and maybe some Coastal Agencies on when they run the big "show" of the system for Gov HB. They may even show off interop with the LWIN during this. I can't wait till Phase II is finished and they can show off the ability to interop with not only the LWIN, but the AWIN also. Phase II will cover the entire Troop M, Troop C, and Troop H areas, and possibly parts of Troops D, and G. The buildout is easier in the "Delta" as far as coverage as the entire area is as flat as a board, with more challenging terrain in the NE corner of the state, similar to the SW corner with the hillier terrain.

I'm sure the Doloroso site was used for the LWIN test. That site is fully developed and is coming into Natchez unbelievably strong and I'm sure the signal is blasting into Louisiana just as easily. With the elevation at Doloroso, that tower is probably 1000 feet above sea level. The tower itself is easily 600 feet and it is the only tri-pod based one that I've observed. It is also covered with microwave dishes. Still, though I don't believe any of the Natchez proper sites are up and going yet. Will keep advised.
