The big problem with NYSEG is that their radio system was installed and is maintained in house, not by outside vendors. What we're going to need is a bunch of people to take the time to DF their local control channel(s) & determine coordinates OR get friendly with one of the NYSEG redio techs : )

Wouldn't it be easier, but not as much fun to just run NYSEG's FRN through the FCC data base and get their transmitter locations? You can even set the parameters for miles around a known location, which would give the entire county of Putnam and nothing else. If that's what you are looking for.

In the span of 5 minuits I found that NYSEG has no trunking sites in Putnam, though there are a lot of applications pending for fixed bases on 173.350. Including some very powerful 330 watt stations, as one in Brewster.

Unfortunately, site frequencies are not always set up as originally specified on license applications. This can happen due to unexpected interference issues during testing. It can also be caused by errors in completing the paperwork in the first place.

There is already far more specific information published in the Wiki now than you can find in the FCC database about this system.

I am hearing Site 132 (T0120). In Pro90Com it shows active connections to the following:

Site ID Channel Frequency
----------------- ----------- ---------------
110 (T010A) 02-1720 153.20000
116 (T0110) 04-1969 153.27500
117 (T0111) 05-2058 152.15750
131 (T011F) 03-2025 152.54750
134 (T0122) 04-2044 153.65000
136 (T0124) 03-2016 152.50250
143 (T012B) 02-1657 152.57000

The frequencies in use at the site are:

02-1756 153.5600 vd
03-2034 152.5925 avd
03-2076 152.8025 c

Talkgroups are 151 and 153 (About 3 hours of monitoring so far). There are 9 radios affiliated at the moment 8 are on 151 and 1 is on 153.

Five digit radio ID's are 90201 and 90107

4 digit RID's are 1800-1849 and 1997,1958 and 2039

There are 2 RID's 2020 and 2046 that are trying to connect to TGID 111 and are being denied by the system.

I haven't listened to and voice traffic on the system yet.

My plan is to let this run through the night to see what pops up.

I did try the connecting sites, but wasn't able to hear anything on the listed frequencies.

Dave,

Is this a RR Wiki or is it somewhere else. I looked at the RR wiki entry for NYSEG and it appears to be empty.

I scanned through the 11 pages here and didn't see this mentioned anywhere.

The RR Database has "Chatham" on TG 221.

However during the big windstorm saturday, I heard several comms to "Chatham" on TG 211.

This is from the Austerlitz tower, which puts a rock solid signal into the Berkshires. (Where my temporary QTH is...)

NYSEG made some changes over time.
My most recent update was a few months ago.
There may have been changes since then, so I should do some updating.
If anyone is aware of any changes please post them here.
I prefer to Search rather than Scan so I can pick up any new/unknown talk groups.

Thanks,
Rich

Here's what I have.

Below that, I've also attached a Uniden usd file for all of the CC's I'm aware of.
With that one file you should be able to hear NYSEG in most areas of operation.
You can also import that usd file into FreeScan.

Typically, Line is xx1, Gas is xx2, Meter is xx3
Supervisors and special operations may be on xx4, xx5, xx6, xx7, xx8, and xx9 for each area.

Can someone tell me what step size is used for the NYSEG CC's ? Want to sniff around one of their sites to see what CC's are coming from the site. Don't want to use a scanner, because of VTL section 397. Don't think I'd get hassled by LE if I have my HT & ham license. I have about 20 HT's, hopefully one will have the correct step size available.

Thanks,
bob

....so how are you planning on properly monitor or investagate the sites?

All I want to do is confirm what CC's are associated with this site. If I remove the HT's antenna & receive the CC full scale, I'll know it's coming from the site I'm at. I also want to see if they are using directional antennas or omni directional antennas. A pair of binoculars will let me do this without trespassing. I'll use my GPS to get coordinates to pass along to this site.

Doesn't work that way.....

You will not get any useful or viable information that way for many reasons.

The step size is 7.5 kHz. I have not seen any ham rigs that can follow that step accurately outside the ham bands. The manufacturers assume that 144-170 is a continuous band, channelized consistently all the way up. That is not true, so most "splinter" frequencies are off-channel above 2 meters.

NYSEG scanning issues

I'm new to the forum but I have had my Radio Shack Pro164 for a year now. I got all my county info for frequencies from this site...very helpful!! One thing has bothered me though, since NYSEG went to P25 I cant hear them at all. I know that my scanner is not a P25 truck scanner, but can't I just put in all the frequencies and pickup something?? The nearest site to me is Liberty, I cant find freq's for Liberty in the database. I just saw a post from a little while ago that said its 191, 192, 193. Can someone help me to get this to work???
