Is there some setting I have to set as far as the amount of time I take setting up a scan list using this software? 3 times now I almost finish after taking maybe 30 minutes setting up seperate scan list numbers. colored lcds etc etc just the way I want it and then "poof"? It just closes on me? I lose everything I just did?? 3 times!...lol....Im about to pull out what hair I have left.... I love the way this software is set up and now I know exactly how to use it but cannot for the life of me figure out why this is happening? Anyone? I'm giving up for a while.....Maybe I need a cold beer.....hahaha....Vig

OH HET BY THE WAY.....MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

There's no timeout in the software. There wasn't any error message of any kind when it went?

One thing I wish PSREdit500 did not do...

I just hate it when I have it open and also using the scanner control and I go to edit something in the objects and I forget to end the scanner control. I make my changes and go to upload to the scanner but of course the port is in use by the Psrctrl500 and I get a pop up message basically telling me all this. I click OK in the pop up message and the PSREdit500 closes itself out which I loose my changes since it was not saved and have to re- start the program. Can it be changed to where it won't shut down? After all why have the pop up message if it is still going to shutdown?...Besides that its a excellent program!

I've had one other report of this issue, and was unable to reproduce it. Are you using Windows Vista by chance?

Select the first city you want, and then the frequencies for that City.

Select the next city you want, and the frequencies for that city. PSREdit will remember the previously selected frequencies from the previous city.

Repeat for each city you want to import.

Mike

Thanks Mike. I'll give it a try.

Communication error?

Hi my name is Clark and I'm new to the forum.

I posted someting similar on the Win500 software site, hope that y'all can help.

I have a new PSR-500 scanner (yeah!) and having trouble getting it to communicate to my PC.
I'm generally tech savvy and think the driver is installed right. Verified in PSREdit when I did a port scan the "port exists, no scanner" message on COM 6 comes up when the radio is connected via the USB cable (a hint that the driver is installed right - when I disconnected the USB cable COM6 came up as no port exists). I get the error msg "a scanner could not be found." Also having a similar problem with Win500.

I'm wondering if my PC is less tolerant to these adapter cables (standard Dell desktop, running XP) as I seem to recall having an issue with a serial to USB adapter for a different application. Is there any port configuration that I can try on my PC that may help to sustain communications with my radio? Anything on my radio itself that needs to be set?

Thanks,
Clark

If you're using the Radio Shack cable, do not use the short 3" adapter cable for the Scanner. The cable that comes with the PSR-500 doesn't include the adapter.

If you're using Windows Vista, you may need to update the driver.

I'm using the cable that came with the PSR-500. ALso tried another computer with WIN2000 and even multiple ports. No joy. I'm going to visit my local radio shop where I bought the scanner to see if they can help.

Did you try the option to search for the port? That might help.

Mike

Yes I tried that. I also tried a different laptop. On another forum topic it was suggested to keep re-installing till it worked, I will give that a shot, PLUS I will try the USB ports on the back of my PC instead of the ones in front.

Will I tried again and finally got it working. Just pays to be persistent, I know that these USB adapters can be flaky. Now I can see what was programmed initially and can update to my liking. Thanks for all of your advice!

I'm trying out the PSREdit 500 with a Pro 106 scanner, and am totally new at programming with software. So far, so good with tackling a couple of issues on my own.

However, how do I save after updating or adding info to the charts? I began by downloading what I had manually programmed into the scanner into the software (that was successful) but haven't figured out how to get it saved. I tried to save to a seperate file, but haven't been able to import that to the software upon re-entering the software (which alway shows the default settings and lists).

Thanks in advance for what no doubt will be the first of more questions.

To save the data, enter the File Menu, and choose the Save or Save As option. Give the program a file name and click the save button.

To load the file, enter the file menu again, and choose the open option and select the file you previously saved.

There is an option under the configuration screens to have the program open the last file used by the program as well.
