WIN 500 Battery Settings

I have a request. If you have a Pro-106 powered by NiMH batteries and use WIN 500 software, would you kindly list the settings for Icon Off, Icon On, Blank Off and Blank On. Although I use freshly charged batteries (checked with a battery voltage checker), the battery display blinks and beeps after a couple of hours (but the batteries show nearly a full charge remaining).

I do, and my settings have never been altered from defaults. I have never had any strange results regarding NiMH batteries, whether charged within the radio or in a charger. The settings show to be:
Icon Off____Icon On____Blink Off____Blink On
_4.55_______4.47_______4.44_______4.31

NiMH batteries are 1.2 VDC nominally and not 1.5VDC which can be a problem for certain electronics. 2500 milliamp NiMHs are now available for about $2.00 a battery. I just bought a box of 50. When using NiMHs in my digital camera and Garmin GPS receiver they don't last long before needing recharging. Conversely one installed in a outside remote temperature sensor will last 4-5 months. It depends on the current drain.

One more comment on NiMH batteries: Their rate of discharge "on the shelf" is horrendous--to the extent that batteries fully charged and held in reserve can deteriorate below a usable voltage in less than a month. However, a new chemistry is now available, such as in the "Pre-Charged Duracells," which hold "only" 2000 mAh, but do not self-drain when stored after charging. Other brands are appearing, also--try them, and I doubt you will go back to the "buckets with a hole in them" NiMHs.

Once a system has been rebanded, do you still need to have a table in your program to enter it into the PSR500? There is a 6 line table and a 7 line table available for the UCAN sytem, does it matter which one I use if needed? Will this hold true for all systems which are going through rebanding or have been rebanded?
Also does anyone have the settings for the WYO-Link yet?

The "Custom Band Plans" referred to by 3mary2 are shown here and are NOT just for UCAN. They were developed for all 800 MHz Motorola II systems and work with systems that are rebanded as well as those that are not yet rebanded. UCAN just happened to be the test ground since it was the first major system to undergo rebanding in the US.

Both Band Plans (Trunking Tables) are virtually the same. One plan has taken Channels 0 - 719 and broken them down into TWO lines, where the other plan has extracted Channels 440 - 599 (which are the NEW frequencies opened up for usage by the FCC) and placed them on the first line of the table so the scanner will consider them first. The second plan (6-line) is available in the WIN500 software whereas the first one (7-line) would have to be entered manually.

Yes, you still need one or the other in your PSR-500, unless GRE is hard-wiring a new trunking table into their recently built units, but the older units will still require one while monitoring Motorola 800 MHz systems.

Is there anyway to display just the talkgroup ID on the display line instead of thye VC frequency? When stopped... the VC freq is displayed "all the time" until the end of the comms... then the talkgroup ID is displayed breifely before the scan starts. I'd like to display the talkgroup IF all the time and not the VC freq. This is a great program! Thanks!

This is a function of the scanner itself, not the programming software. I believe that the manufacturing engineers figured that if you had the alpha tags in place to identify the TG, why would you need to see the TGID. I think they are wrong, because I would like to see the TGID instead of the voice or control channel frequency, too, as would a lot of scanner enthusiasts, but in the owner''s manual for my GRE PSR-600 it specifically shows a captured display and the following sentence, "Shows Talkgroup ID when talkgroup is not active, shows voice channel frequency when talkgroup is active." So the TGID will not even show if there is traffic on the frequency.

The only way I know to display the TGID for a longer period is to pause on it and then you still have to wait until the voice traffic has stopped. You can also change the length of time the display lags by changing the LCD Blink time (Upper right quadrant of General Settings page). I have mine set to 100 - 100 where the default is 50 - 150. That makes quite a difference.

Thanks... that does help a bit. I guess I'll have to enter the TG at the beginning of the alpha tag if I want to see it without waiting for the end of the comm.

Your master site
With Don's OK I've decided to close this thread. It's becoming difficult to manage and find specific information. Please post your individual problems or concerns as threads in this forum. Please form a topic with WIN500 in the subject so Don can find the threads easier. Try to include a quick snippet as to what your issue or concern is in the subject too.

Thanks.
