In the end I had to google SAE connectors, as I've never heard of them, let alone seen one in the UK. Practically all the radios I use and sell now have those off-white connectors with spade terminals inside - annoying 3 versions of course, offset left, centre and offset right, but I have a few adaptors and they seem electrically decent. Over the years here the hams emergency groups have tried to standardise their power connection systems for obvious reasons but it's never settled down. I'm left wondering if the new ranges of home electrics Wago style connectors are just the easiest solution. Flip the lever, stuff the wire in, flip the lever.
