I have a 10k resistot soldered onto the disc line at the input pin of the 3.5mm jack. Should I be changing the value of this resistor?

Thanks again for all your help. I took your advice and experimented with some different USB sound cards and did get some slightly better results. I think you are correct in assuming that something on the signal path is the issue.

You'll have to determine how much if any additional isolation experimentally. I my case I was fortunate to have the test equipment to
make the job easy. However, you should be able to tune the receiver to a control channel while observing plot screens and for the
presence of trunk signaling blocks while adjusting gain and experimenting with coupling capacitor values or build-out resistor value
to help improve isolation if your particular detector dictates it.
