Now I have to keep watching that product page to see when more units become available. A similar, although not quite as technically adept as the Blue Tail, is the story of the ATS-25 shortwave receiver. (You can probably see it on Amazon, for those not familiar). Yes, these products are in two different worlds, but there are interesting correlations between price and availability.

Most of my college work was in marketing. The guys at Blue Tail will come up with the right formula once they can get production into higher gear. The age old question goes something like, "Do you want to sell 1,000 widgets at 9.95, or 500 widgets at 14.95?"

Everyone who has ever taken a marketing course has faced that conundrum. Once again, best wishes BTT.
Thanks. I will say that I have not sold anywhere near either of those numbers (of either model). I guess you can do the math based on my earlier post. I will be the first to admit that I'm not an accountant. I know I can't compete with a huge Japanese company that manufactures in the tens of thousands somewhere in the Philippines. I'm not aiming for that at all. I also know that I am very lucky to be allowed to post here and sell a product. From an engineering perspective, I can say that what is happening in the electronic components world has never happened before in my lifetime. Not like this. I think the ripple-effects are going to be felt for a long time. Time will tell.

The price for the P25RX-II didn't jump. It started at $450 and went down to $399 as of yesterday. The P25RX has been $249 since last year. Still is.

Semantics ... the price jumped from original P25RX to P25RX-II. I am not accusing you of price gouging or even saying it's too much for the unit, all I am saying is it's too much for me. Good luck with your continued venture.

Todd: second all the support for the P25RX-II price. You need to charge what you need to make a profit and stay in business, and everyone should understand the value that comes with that, including fast turnaround of product feature requests, and a real direct link to the owner and developer. I would pay a premium for that in many things and certainly do not object to it here. As someone who owns both an SDS200 and a P25RX, I find the value, fast iterating, and general vibrancy of this community to be much higher than the other camp. You have a winner, and there is no reason to apologize for anything. Thanks for delivering a great product!

Thank you for the support! I appreciate all the support I receive here at RR. Great people all around. Better than any other people I've ever worked with anywhere. I wish I would have ended up here sooner.

....SNIP.... From an engineering perspective, I can say that what is happening in the electronic components world has never happened before in my lifetime. Not like this. I think the ripple-effects are going to be felt for a long time. Time will tell.

It seems the pain is spreading from car and appliance manufacturers to the hobby world and everything in between. I know recently the Hermes Lite 2 project had to make component changes at a cost increase to produce more boards. And if you don't stick with reputable sources there's a slew of counterfeit components that could be headed your way. It's not a fun time.

Aside from the mess in the industry I love my P25RX. It runs 24/7. I bought a Bose wave radio for $50 at a thrift store that I use for my external speaker. The system is great.

I noticed that you had some modes listed for the original 25RX that are not listed for the 25RX-II. Sorry if this has been asked before, but is this a typo of does the 25RX-II no longer support FMNB and NXDN?BTT-1.png

Those two modes are not currently supported. Support can be added.

Any idea when stock of the original P25RX may return? I don't need all the features of the newer model, but would love to have one of the originals. I would assume if parts can be obtained to make the newer model the old one should be returning soon too?
