I was flipping back and forth between the Grove and Universal Radio site's `screen shots' of the software and noticed some possibly interesting subtle differences between the two. The `screen shots' of the software on the Grove site seem to be missing some `buttons?' / `functions' when compared to the Universal site's `screen shots'. It has me wondering if one or the other may not have the most current or correct software showing? Whilst I don't yet know just what the `extra?' or `missing' `butons?' / `functions?' are it kinda worries me.

Something else I find `interesting'... I wonder if ICOM figures that there are people out there that really don't want to be able to have, even limited if I read things right, `manual' control of the unit? *Personally* I would actually like to be able to choose and have actually been considering purchasing an `after market' `control head' for use with at least one of my IC-PCR-1000s so that if I just wanted to `listen' without having to either fire up or other wise connect a computer to it I could. I might also be tempted to try and figure out a way to setup one in one of my vehicles now and then if I didn't have to be lugging around a computer all the time.

Icom PCR1500 / R1500 -- I have one

I received my R1500-01 (unblocked) from Japan about a week ago. I guess there are relatively few of these in the U.S. at this time and, if you have a question about the new unit, I'd be happy to try to answer it. Programming information for the Silabs CP210x USB to UART Bridge controller used in the unit (requires a Silabs driver on the PC) is available at:
http://www.silabs.com/public/documents/tpub_doc/anote/Microcontrollers/USB/en/an169.pdf

The R1500 seems like a good unit. Although it is very suseceptible to interference from switching power supplies, fax machines, etc. And LOTS of images. HF and MW sensitivity mediocre. But that's probably not what most will buy this radio for. Definitely need the DSP (same UT106 as PCR1000) to get rid of whistles, beats and general hash.

If you're used to a well-mannered SWL receiver like my Hallicrafters SX-62 or Sony ICF-2010 this rig will definitely seem primitive and barely listenable on HF and MW.

Would someone please post a download or purchase link for TRUNKPCR (or is it PCRTRUNK)? There was a note from someone that they now support the PCR1500/R1500.

Thanks!

PCR1500 / R1500 serial data stream

ICOM R1500 Programmer info.

NOTE: I could not monitor 2-way session between software and R1500 as Tal Tech Breakout will not open a COM port that is already open.

Tal Tech Breakout program shows this info. on com4 (19200,n,8,1) when R1500 in standby mode (PC software not active):

grayga,

Can you give any impressions as to how the 1500 performs on VHF and UHF airband? Does it have the 295-300MHz drop off in sensitivity the R20 has?

Thanks
