• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

We have tons of old analog stuff. Still in use. Anyways, I'm trying to repurpose a PM400 for amateur use.

I've spent weeks going back and forth with Motorola. It's to the point now where they just ignore me and close the chat.

I've read a lot over the last month. Lots of conflicting information.

As of this second, Motorola's stance is that the PM400 does not work anymore (becuase they say so) and that the software also quit working in 2019.

Is there anybody out there that can help obtain this software? I am asking for public assistance for this software because the official response I've received (countless times) is that it's no longer available. I've spent considerable amount of time going 'round and 'round with Motorola.

A name at Motorola. Secret phrases. Knocks. Special signs? There's got to be a way.

Appreciate your reply. I've spent many hours over the last few weeks on this.

Seems like Motorola Solutions has changed things up from the Status Quo and told nobody, including their support people. This process is excruciating and will end in disappointment.

Step 1: You still need to make an account. (From apply to account creation, this took 3 weeks)

Step 2: Go To "Support Services" and then "Software and Licensing"

Step 3: Click the button that says "SUBSCRIBE TO NON-LICENSED SOFTWARE"

Check "PCR NA Analog Commercial Devices (Legacy)" and click "Add"

Step 4: Wait. Motorola Solutions support says you will wait from "Instantly to 15 minutes"
My experience was waiting multiple hours and placing numerous tickets to get it to show up.
So I got the software, connected to my radio, tried to program and I need a wideband key.
None of the part numbers show up on their website any more. I was told no less than two-dozen times to "order" various random part number from Motorola Solutions support to which NONE showed up as an actual product to purchase.

I've been going around and around since 10AM on this. Out of all the phone numbers I was given, none worked, except this last one. After mashing buttons til someone answered, they placed a ticket and an "analog specialist" called me back very quickly.

The analog specialists claims "all wideband licenses have been canceled" as of July 2023.

Motorola has abandoned millions of perfectly functioning radios and shut-out the Amateur community, to which the analog specialists reply was "They abandoned all of Canada, too".

What a sad end to Motorola.

Motorola was never concerned with the Amateur community to begin with. Those radios have been EOL for a while now. You can’t expect a company like Motorola to continue to offer support for radios that haven’t been produced in decades. It isn’t economically feasible for them. The information you’re looking for is all over the internet. It’s just no longer available through Motorola.
Here’s a good place to start.
You need to find R05.16. As that is the last version that doesn’t force narrowband.
