The alert stated EMS and LE, nothing was mentioned about Fire tomorrow. But yes the Fire Departments will be. All radios have been installed and distributed.

Have you heard anything yet? I've seen two different talk groups pop up, 32 and 40, but no voice. Encrypted?

Talkgroups that have shown up are 101 which is SO, 171 which I think is EMS. Fully encrypted.
I sincerely hate it that it has been encrypted, but, crime will go down in Edgefield county. Just about every crook they catch has an app on their phone...

What's the status of the fire department communications? Has all of the VHF equipment been taken out of service? How are they toning out volunteers?

Keep us posted on how that works out, a number of cities which have gone encrypted have had crime rates stay the same or go up.

I guess the app isn't working too well since they are being caught...
Whats been found was that the people doing the actual crime would keep their cell phones clear while a lookout would be nearby or at their home listening to a phone app or a scanner and would alert the law breakers to possible law enforcement coming their way, giving them time to escape justice. They allegedly would take turns being the lookout. It ain't happening, now...

I can actually understand why LE would want to encrypt, though I wish they wouldn't, but it's hard for me to understand fire and EMS too.

My guess on fire/ems would be to add HEPA protections on disclosure of patient information.

I have received information that Edgefield Co. fire is still active on VHF.

Simulcast?

Still toning out and operating on the VHF system for Fire Departments. They are presently getting edispatch up and running on new system. After all that is complete, tone outs and communications will be on new system.

Anyone know how interoperability is working with state agencies who remain on Palmetto 800?
What's the procedure for all these agencies who have switched to NXDN or trbo systems when they need to communicate with HP, SLED, etc?
I heard a big manhunt recently on one of the LE Comm channels involving SLED and their helo but did not hear any McCormick units (who are on a TRBO system) where the search was happening.

Also, can someone in the area submit the system info to the database, even if most/all talkgroups are encrypted? Thanks

Another question.

Does North Augusta PS still have UHF radios in their vehicles, and if so, can they communicate with Edgefield Co.?

Yes the UHF radios are still installed in NAPS cars as well as ECSO cars. I do know ECSO has some P25 radios for situations as described above. I also believe McCormick County does too.

It seems that I recall SC having regional UHF LE channels for interoperability. Is this still the case in Edgefield and Aikens Cos.? If so, what frequency are they using?

I wonder how many state agencies carry multi-band radios to even use these UHF MA channels? Too bad so much effort went into building Palmetto 800 and now so many agencies are going their own way. I guess it's just too expensive.
