I received this memo at work this afternoon regarding Bush's visit next week to Edison.

• It has been confirmed that President Bush will be at the New Jersey Convention Center for a fundraising event on Wednesday May 30th, 2007. As per the invitation, the doors will open at 3:15pm and the event is scheduled to officially begin at 3:45pm. The event is expected to run approximately 2 1/2 hours. This event is by invitation only, and will be run by the Republican Committee as well as the Secret Service.

• The Secret Service will be on site at the Convention Center checking the area and setting up a station next Wednesday May 30, 2007. President Bush is scheduled to fly into Newark Airport that day. He will then ride via car to the Convention Center.

• When he finally arrives near Raritan Center, Raritan Center Parkway will be closed for approximately 20-30 minutes, (as of today, subject to change.) The same will occur at the end of the event, somewhere between 5:30pm to 6:15pm. This shut down will be conducted by the Secret Service, who will work directly with the local police as well as State Police.

Should be some good listening..at least the stuff not encrypted!

I wonder if any of the secret service frequencies would be in the clear?? Should be interesting to see, however I highly doubt it.

With the close proximity to the Newark Federal repeater, and other towers in the surrounding area, this may be an interesting day for monitoring. I will try to focus on the federal stuff, since much of the other stuff has been identified. I have my Pro-83 now, so I'll see if I can get anything interesting that day on my Signal Stalker (break out the fresh batteries). However, my BC296D is temporarily out-of-service (out for repair) so I'll miss out on the P25/ENC stuff. I'll keep you posted on my findings, since I live and work very close to that area.

In some of the Pa. forums, there has been some discussion in the past about Secret Service freqs during presidential visits; apparently, some SS freqs are clear, though I've never personally been able to confirm this fact.

Just bumping this up to remind everyone that traffic will be worse than normal in New Jersey. This is about the only thing that can make rush hour worse in central NJ.

NJ State Democratic Committe has organized a protest rally for 2:30 to start at the Holiday Inn on King George's Rd. With Edison being encrypted, I wonder how much there will be to monitor tomorrow.

If anyone can share anything, please do.

I will try to focus on unidentified federal VHF and UHF band freq's; there's sure to be some interesting comms going on there today. You might hear the usual stuff on B2-8 (NJSP TRS, escorting the president in traffic) but all too routine.

Latest update...

• President Bush will be at the New Jersey Convention Center for a fundraising event on Wednesday May 30th, 2007. As per the invitation, the doors will open at 3:15pm and the event is scheduled to officially begin at 3:45pm. The event is expected to run approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

• The Secret Service will be on site at the Convention Center checking the area and setting up a station next Wednesday May 30, 2007. President Bush is scheduled to fly into Newark Airport that day. He will then ride via car to the Convention Center.

• The Edison Police department will close Raritan Center Parkway entirely at approximately 4:30 pm to 5 pm. No vehicular traffic will be allowed on Raritan Center Parkway at that time. This shut down will be conducted by the Secret Service, who will work directly with the local police as well as State Police.

• Raritan Center Parkway will be closed once again between 5:55 pm to approximately 6:40 pm. No vehicular traffic will be allowed on Raritan Center Parkway at that time.

This plus the protest rally = leave work early! Traffic will be horrible.

Okay I did leave work early and saw about 50-60 Troopers along with Edison PD at the Edison Sheraton. The NJSP Command Post was setup in the parking lot. Only activty at the time was on B2-9 as the Troopers checked in with Radio Checks and reported being at their posts.

There was also a small group of people in the vacant lot next to the Holiday Inn and a big Democratic Party bus. The Teamsters were there as well.

Unfortunately I can't monitor the State PD from home even though I'm only 3 miles from Netcong Barracks. Trees and Mooney Mt. in the way and I don't get any signal even with a Scantenna on the roof. If I could only elevate my house!

Well, I'm out-of-luck for monitoring. My brand new Pro-83 is not working properly, as the squelch is constatly opening up, even after it's adjusted. And my BC296D is at Uniden repair! What great timing I get! :(
