Pro 668 not recognized by pc after update.

Since this update I haven't been able to connect my Pro 668 to the computer. I keep getting a "USB Device Not Recognized" warning. Is there something I can do to fix this?

Fantastic, I will also say thank you to Don S., and Whistler for updating the Pro-668 firmware. This will keep me loyal to Whistler when I purchase my next radio.

Is the scanner turned off and the SD card properly inserted? Can't think of anything else, other than an improperly inserted cord, that might cause that.

I have two Pro 668s and I ran them side by side for a couple of hours before I updated the second one. In my unscientific test the updated scanner seemed to be a little more sensitive. I fiddled with the squelch to try to eliminate that as a variable, although no two radios are ever exactly alike in any case.

I have tried several different usb cables, usb ports and also reinserting the card, still not working. I'm going to try on my laptop next. Everything was fine until I updated.

Ok, so I have Windows 7 on my desktop and Windows 8.1 on my laptop. 7 no longer sees my scanner and 8.1 sees it just fine. I'm not sure what happened but I can deal with it for now until I figure it out. It's a strange coincidence.

Odd. Both of my Windows machines are on 8.1, so unfortunately I can't validate your Win 7 issue. Possibly the new software requires Win 8 or higher.

Here's the release notes for the 2.4 firmware update:

Version 2.4 - June 4, 2015
•Fixed EDACS patching bug.
•Add delay in USB startup required by some USB host hardware.
•Changed algorithm used for battery level icon.
•New default voltages for NiMH icon thresholds.
•Fixed Audio Boost handling for analog frequencies.
•DAC gain changes for digital "too loud" problem
•EDACS ESK detection fixes
•Fixes for password / alarm functions. Changes were not always preserved on power-down.

I have 4 usb ports on my laptop running Win 7. The 668 is only recognized on 1 of the 4 usb ports for some reason.

Did the update; main thing I noticed was that the volume is noticeably lower across the board... Instead of normalizing the volume to a 'less loud' threshold, I wish the update would have raised the volume for analogue channels to be similar to the previously 'too loud' digital channels...

I can make the volume softer pretty easily via the volume control, but I can't make them any louder than 'MAX' and max is not quite loud enough for my ears. Maybe I'm going deaf, but the apparent reduction in volume is quite irritating to me...

Other than that one complaint, very glad that there's an update & absolutely love this scanner!

Digress a bit: Bought this last week for a great deal from a closing RadioShack; this is my 1st scanner after 2 decades of wanting one ever since I was 11 years old flipping through their catalogue & dreaming of all the stuff I'd buy when I had some money... Incredibly sad to see RadioShack going through the reorganization it has; if it weren't for the "150 in 1" & "AM - Shortwave Radio kit" I received when I was a kid in the early 90's, I'd likely not have the great career I do now.

If you want to make the volume louder. Go menu then settings. Scroll down to dac gain and adjust it to 0db.

The previous firmwares had this setting at at 0db the new firmware has it set to -4db.

Hello RR

I have been a member lurking for a while and just received my RS Pro-668 this morning. Have had it up and running for a while and thought I would see what updates are available.

When I went thru the initial setup it had a 2010 date.

Any special way to connect it to the laptop and update?

I have the scanner off and plugged in (running win7) and it installed basic drivers then gave me access to the microSD I ran the setup file and am now in the software program.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Universal Radio is shipping me a 800mhz and a RH77CA, should be here Tuesday.

That's strange, I had the same problem, now it won't reconnect at all. I have tried one Vista machine and two 8.1 and have had no issues at all since this happened. My scanner was instantly recognized and ready to go with both but with 7 I had problems since day one. The strange thing is I have no problems with any other USB devices. Oh well, thanks for the input, I'm just glad my scanner isn't broke.

Running Win7x64 Ultimate and it still works fine on mine. FYI

Already had to fix audio to put it back to 0 on mine as well. It was too quiet. Good to see updates being done after all.

I'd figured what I had was going to be it so this is a welcome surprise.

Disregard my first post. I figured it all out, I did not realize my post had to be moderator approved before it would be published.

I do have one question though; does anyone know if the simulcast issue has been addressed in these latest updates?

I had to go back to the original 2.02 EZ-Scan. My 668 stop receiving the MOSWIN system. It works again since I reverted back.

Does this firmware update allow the Pro 668 to directly input a frequency from the buttons on the panel? If there any tricks to doing this on the Pro 668 as there are times I want to be able to just listen to a Ham frequency.

My laptop only has two USB ports that detect the cable. Odd thing, they all work on external hard drives and optical drives without any problems. One of the "dead to the cable ones" seems to have issues with USB power for my little LED lights. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, but the external drives all work 100%.
