• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a Dash Mount Astro Spectra Analog Mid Power

Programmed by someone else

Service Mode says;

R110103
A070309
CNTLHD31
D04JKF9PW5AN
494AAw0613
1MEG
FLSHCD 000004-000004

I am using aftermarket cable and RIB. The cable is put together properly.
This radio works in the car and can transmit fine, no problems, no error codes.
Computer is an old Gateway with XP and a serial port.

Now, here is the fun part. I am trying to read the radio and make some changes to it but the software doesn't seem to work. I'm using 011001 to program in DOS using Freedos on a USB, I can program other radios with the DOS stick like my HT1000. The program will read the radio and comm test fine but will stop at the end and give some obscure error code that I can't find online.

Here is the question; Where did I go wrong? Software Version?

Any help at all would be appreciated

What exact software are you using? If you're using old Spectra RSS, it won't work. You need Astro Spectra CPS which will run just fine as a Windows XP program (DOS RSS was available for the AS but CPS is easier).

I've tried RSS R01.10.01 (this one could communicate with the radio)
I tried higher RSS but they just reboot the radio and give a comm error.

What would you recommend for a CPS (number)? Does it have to be below r11.xx.xx because of the radio's firmware being 11.xx.xx

Astro Spectra CPS R05.03.00 was the last version released and should work just fine with any revision of firmware. Again, runs under Windows XP and since you have a real serial port, you should be good to go.
