Probably not if the input itself shows up. Headphone/mic combo ports are interesting. If getting the 4 notch cable doesn't work then I'd consider a USB sound/mic dongle. I've used them successfully in the past with some of my scanners of yoreSo its not the sound card then?

I dont even know how to check for that stuff man should i call up ASUS or go to like geek squad or something to let them troubleshoot?Headphone/mic combo ports can be tricky. Are you sure you don't have another app managing your sound input settings? Not familiar with how ASUS does things but with Dell if you plug in an input to a combo port the sound management software (if installed) will ask if the input is a headphone, microphone, etc and set the input accordingly. If all else fails go with the external USB sound card as the headphone and mic ports are separate. You can always channel the input from the USB card to output to your laptop's built-in sound card via Windows volume mixer
I would google it. You may see a lot of helpful hints.I dont even know how to check for that stuff man should i call up ASUS or go to like geek squad or something to let them troubleshoot?
