I have read here and there that the PSR-500 is more sensitive than the Pro-651 and that it is good on mil air whereas the 651 is weak on mil air. I have a 651 and am reasonably satisfied and looking at a second hand 500. I will add the 500 simply for a second radio for searches but if it is infact a stronger receiver all the better. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has done side by side comparisons.

I have a PSR-500, a Pro-106 that recently died due to my error, and a Pro-651. All of them are as identical in sensitivity as they could be. Since they are identical electronically, that's expected. The only ones of any of these radios I've seen that's different enough to tell it apart from the others is when the BNC connector broke.

Other than bad alignment, these radios are the SAME.

The PSR-500/Pro-106/Pro-651/WS-1040 are not very sensitive on Mil-Air. A PSR-310, BC-125AT or even a BCD-396XT would perform better in this band.

As has been mentioned many times, real-world sensitivity will vary based on location and RF surroundings. In some cases, model A will be better, while model B will be better in others.
