@blantonl not to blow any smoke, or kiss your tuchus, but I just wanted to express public appreciation for fighting the so-called "good fight" on this. There are so many people and entities that lay down for copyright troll lawsuits and I'm extremely proud to be a part of your community and support this important resource that allows the general public to monitor what's going on in their community.

I am confused by this assertion:

Specifically, PDC’s copyrighted Flexi software is available for download using the link shown below:

Not only is there no "Flexi software" offered for download on the wiki page, or even a reference to "Flexi," but... I can't find anything on Priority Dispatch's site (or Google!) suggesting that they even make such a thing.

I've seen so many frivolous DMCA notices over the years. I'm glad RadioReference is standing up against them.

You do have to admit he deserves a little pat on the bum.

Did Amazon reply? When I did web hosting stuff back a decade plus ago, it was common among the group to receive letters after a site owner told them they have nothing to work with. Plenty of hosts didn't want fire where there was smoke and told the site owner it must be taken care of. Good on you for dealing with them

Mason was the lawyer. Ironside was actually a consultant for the San Francisco Police Dept. Before that, he was a cop.

Ironside had the cool van / radio telephone, the equivalant which is very common today with vans for wheelchairs and people with cell phones, but at the time it was REALLY cool.

Thanks
Joel

Amazon is obligated to pass a DCMA takedown request on to the site owner and force the takedown of the content if the site owner doesn't formally respond to the DCMA takedown request.

We formally responded to the takedown request, so Amazon at that point sends that back to the Priority Dispatch lawyers and then washes their hands of the situation and basically says "OK, you two battle it out in court."

You do have to admit he deserves a little pat on the bum.

I'm dying over here.

And your Avatar is amazing. Captures you eyeballing that 500yd drive down the fairway which BTW landed on the green. And look at that little goatee poking through even though you just shaved what, 30 minutes prior? A manly man's Avatar for sure.

Is it worth getting into a legal pissing match over something that the vast majority of RR people don't even care about? And that very small number who do, have already printed it out?

If it's copyrighted by a private company, so be it: take it down.

It would be more worthwhile to direct RR's efforts to something more relevant.

This is absolutely something worth fighting for.
1. RR should stand up to bullies who abuse the legal system
2. If RR gives in, then other agencies and organizations might hop on the bandwagon a start a slippery slope of chiseling away the information available here, turning RadioReference into RemovedReference

Easy win...I'd simply respond to their lawyers that the information was derived from publicly available government sites that publish the information. Oh, and to pound sand.

If we were implementing a system that deprived PDC of their ability to generate revenue (for instance, we designed a dispatch system that used their codes for use in the system and reporting), then this would be a whole different ballgame.

We are also publishing for reference and educational purposes a subset of the entire PDC processes and procedures (some of the codes) that are in use by publicly funded and implemented communications systems all over the country.

We also do not generate any revenue or commercial benefit from the publication of these codes in the wiki. It's provided as a public service, just like the municipalities that publish the same exact content on their web site.

We have a strong defense that we can assert should PDC and their counsel decide to sue. Or maybe not. 🤣

so you going to keep fighting this PDC case all the way? where ever it goes in court…

Seems like you said something similar, when dealing with MRA case, and you gave up on that fight, because you didn’t want to go all the way to Supreme Court. So you walked away from that fight.

Did you read where I said "Or maybe not?" If not, go back and reread it. Everything is always up for evaluation given the circumstances.

And I'd like you to cite where I "said something similar" with regards to MRA. We never said anything about our intentions with regards to that issue... but we did execute on a very strategic legal process with regards to MRA.

And... go take a look in the database. There's a ton of MRA stuff there. 🤷‍♂️

I did go look at the MRA stuff in the database, lots of missing and outdated stuff. Let’s wait and see who wants to clean the MRA stuff up. View attachment 127448
So, is that a walk back of your previous assertions, or are you sticking with what you previously just said? Can’t really tell by your response. 🤔
