The mall is going to evacuated til next year! Roof collapse, wall failures, that a-hole really affected a lot of people today. I understand it is the #1 tax revenue generator for the city.

i , once again, am not surprised at the lack of huevos by rpd
fire depts were amazing - must have been tough to sit there while rpd went about looking for a can of man

scumbag piggee matches the description for 3-4 other fires in the foothill farms area and the antelope walmart garden center a few hours prior to his roseville stunt

heres hoping this little piggee goes squeal squeal squeal all the way to the hole

x2 on the other fires possibly caused by him...

I was talking to some of the firefighters and they were helpless...all geared up...the guys were frustrated because they had to just sit there and wait...weren't allowed to do anything...When they WERE finally able to go to work, they did an excellent job!

And yea...The performance from the PD was disappointing...I would be embarrassed if I were one of those officers working for them...I cant believe it took so long for them to capture that ONE guy...
But what do you expect? Roseville PD spends all their time writing window tint tickets, and speeding tickets..Their command does not have the tactical experience or intelligence to address situations like this...

And yes, I do know what I'm talking about, and I have 15 months of deployment to back that up...Im not saying RPD is BAD, I'm just saying I've been in groups that could have had this handled MUCH sooner

spot on blizzard

i was parking at roseville amtrak station to go to a football game - rpd drives by - i ask him if its to park where i did was my 1st time around there wanted to make sure parking was ok
he never answered my question then told me i had a cracked windshield and left -was a chip in it not even a crack
he couldnt even get what was wrong with my windshield correct

if SSD had handled that - we would have an intact mall with about 50$ of damage to gamestop

helpful hint *if a 120 lb crackhead comes into your store and mumbles incoherent things.. and says he has a gun and doesnt display it and asks where the bathroom is..

try either 1- beating the s out of him 2- telling him you dont have a bathroom

if you come into MY store and SAY you have a gun.. you better pull it out before i do anything

Exactly! Not only will that place be shut down for a WHILE...(maybe even through Christmas)...but all of that WASTED stuff...I dont think we can even imagine how much money was wasted in there...yea yea...INS. will take care of it...thats NOT the point...the point is, slow action from a slow department did NOT help...Majority of the mall could have been saved if a proficient tactical team would have taken over...

The city of Roseville WILL be hurt by this...whether people believe that or not...The Galleria is what the entire town revolves around...

Very well said! Luckily, no one was hurt in this incident however. Oddly enough

Being cautious at what cost?

There's word that insurance will NOT cover these costs for some companies if this is ruled an "act of terrorism".

Considering the risk that most fire fighters take every day on the job, and the minimal damage the mall had as late as 1pm, it is RIDICULOUS (being nice) that so much damage has now happened. WestField and the city of Roseville will be able to take care of themselves, I am concerned for the displaced workers in this horrible job market.

The element that kept fire fighters away is a backpack presumably left by the arsonist. The word today is that a store clerk or patron said there was a "chemical smell" coming from the backpack, and that smell is/was similar to kerosene.

So many work crews showed up today that it wasn't even funny. It included at least 3 national disaster recovery and/or catastrophe trucks. For a mall fire?!? The crews are now saying that they won't be let in until midnight at the soonest.

Is anything still going on over there right now?

Doesnt seem like it. I know the PD is still out there guarding the mall. I just happened to drive down Roseville parkway and saw a few cars sitting out there blocking the entrances. Not much traffic on the radio right now.

Side note I missed most of this incident as I happened to sleep in until 2 pm since I was up late the previous night. Doh! and I live a little over a block from the mall. Makes me think I need to replace my BC246T with a new scanner that has fire out(like the BCD396XT) or similar alerting functionality so I can have it awaken me whenever something big happens lol.

As far as RPD I'm wondering what took them so long to send in the Bomb Robot to search for the bag? Why did that happen a few hours later just before the large fire broke out? It seems like to me they should have sent it in much sooner. Although I missed most of it what I have gathered is the standoff incident happened around 10:30ish and they got the suspect into custody shortly(11-11:45 at the latest). At this time the fire was set but it was well controlled by the sprinklers. Then they waited for awhile doing nothing knowing the pack was in there. Finally they get the idea to send the robot in around 1:45ish right before the fire blew up and roof collapsed. Seems like the result of poor Communication or leadership/planing on the PDs part. does that sound familiar?

The fire was not set inside the store, but rather above the store, and thus (I think) above the sprinklers. I was under the impression that the robot came from SSD. I not aware of Roseville having one of their own.

An ATF response team arrived yesterday morning and took over the fire scene and will have control of it at least through the weekend.

I can not believe they have National Disaster Teams there now...

Why? The incident is criminal in nature (arson, for which local, state and federal agencies have investigative authority, and ATF has specialists), and is impacting more than 25 businesses (qualifies for Federal SBA Disaster Loans for the business holders)?

True but the term National Disaster is more commonly known for hurricanes, tornadoes, earth quakes, terrorist attacks, etc...

click google images and type "National Disaster"...

An idiot started a fire in a simple mall...It was 1 building that caught fire...with NO major injuries (if any)...The town wasnt destroyed, no other buildings were destroyed...Not ONE car was damaged...Get where Im coming with this?

But yes, I understand there were a lot of businesses that were affected by this...The Westfield family however probably didnt even know about this till the next day...Nor do I think they could care less..they own 120 shopping centers in like, 4 different countries and they are worth over $40 billion dollars...This will just give them a reason to upgrade one of their small centers.

While I was deployed from 2007 to 2009, they added a whole NEW sector of the mall...which has all the nicer shops...Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Gucci, Coach, True Religion...etc...and they made that section really nice...all this is going to do is force them to upgrade the old portion.

Lots of job relocation will be taking place as we have 2 or 3 more Westfield malls within a 20 mile radius at max...and at least 1 only 12 minutes away. A few of my friends from school are already being placed at the other stores. Which is no issue because usually, stores hire for Holiday help...now, they are just using employees which are already in their system.

STILL...its a shtty situation....Im disapointed that this happened... =/ Thats the mall I always go to
