Please excuse me if this is posted in the wrong place. I'm setting up this scanner for a friend and it's my first experience with a trunking scanner. Using the supplied antenna I'm having no problem receiving the local VHF frequencies in Saratoga County ( I'm between EX. 10 and 11 ). I managed to set up the trunking system and found a number of groups, however the voice usually comes in somewhat garbled if at all. Occasionally it does come through loud and clear. My question is, would a better antenna help? Or isit the radio itself? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Does anyone have any info on the 4-digit UID's that range from 1140 to 1753 ? My guess is that they are dispatcher ID's.

Yes.. The 4 digit ID's are the dispatchers. I know one I see very frequently on the EMS channel is 1007.

the way I had it figured, 1001 thru 1008 were consoles, and I was thinking that the other 4-digit numbers were personal ID's of dispatchers. Just a guess.
Still have a few talkgroups to identify, but the data is updating nicely.

There are 8 console positions in the dispatch center numbered 1-8 which is equal to their ID 1001-1008 on the 800 systems. Desk Officers use their badge numbers for ID perpose which do not show up on the 800 system regardless of which console they are logged into.

When monitoring this system outside my own neighborhood, I have noticed that the RIDs match the unit numbers of the mobile transmitters. I haven't bothered alpha-tagging them because the identities are so obvious.

I saw RID 11 and 13 today. Any ideas?

Unknown agency #20 showing up in EMS blocks.

Unknown agencies #00, 02, 04, 05, 06, 72 showing up in fire blocks.

Can't figure out police portables. I suspect they are assigned to individual officers, but so far I can't find any agency correlation. Mobiles are clearly the same as the car numbers, just like EMS mobiles.

Dave, where does TG 3211 (Fire TAC 21 ?) figure-in ? It doesn't seem to be in the radio template for Fire service .

That was an extrapolation based on it being -3 TGIDs from TAC-24.

When NYSP units are relayed into the system, PRO96COM shows a RID of 0 (zero).

The RID of zero denotes the VHF patch to the 800 system.
