I tried the collapsing the supplied antenna and that just made it inaudible.

Can those who are not having problems with the system post the scanner model they are using? In think someone on here said they were having success with a bcd396xt?

I have a pro-106 and it is suffering from bad distortion on the system.

I'm running it on a PSR-600, and a PRO-2096 at the time The only problem is with my antennas, they need new coax.

At my location, no luck with PSR-500, PSR-600, BCD396T, BCD396XT. Haven't tried my PRO-96 yet.

Maybe I have too much signal. ATT doesn't help, though.

saratoga 800 system

I use a pro-106 here in Broadalbin and no problems. It sure beats Fulton and Montgomery counties systems.

Southwest Lk Luzerne same problems when using outside antenna with 396xt and 996xt but fewer garbled transmissions when using collapsed center load antenna when it is laying horizontal. While on the Sacandaga lake today the 396xt with supplied antenna some transmissions were inaudible.

I talked to a Chief officer who has used the new system and he confirmed most of the same problems that we are complaining about. Fire Alert is horrible and when a signal comes in good it still has what would be described as digital weirdness. I don't think the problem is with our scanners as much as it is with Saratoga County spending millions of dollars on a crappy radio system.

Your New Scanner Antennas

Here is a link that explains simulcast. http://www.danelec.com/pdfs/Simulcast.pdf
Yes it has some sales pitch in it...

Read the section on Minimizing Distortion in Overlap areas.
In this case the Better scanner antennas are not the best selection.
I know Pittsfield Comm is still out at the sites fine tuning the overlaps.

Who was it who said "any cheese and crackers for the wine-ers?"

can we get are own Chanel instead of sharing with warren county i take my phone with me to the fire scene
we don't have allot of radio's to go around to all the fire men right know they are 2,300 each that's a lot of money to spend on radio's so that will help to have are own Chanel

Seems like it's a little late in the game to be "fine tuning the overlaps". This should have been perfect before public safety went online. The highway department units should have been the test subjects. Since P25 Digital is being pushed by the Feds, we should have expected it to cost more and sound worse.

No surprise there.... DIGITAL IS GARBAGE!!!!! (Sounds like crap, etc)

These services should have stayed analogue WHERE THEY HAD THE BEST RELIABILITY!

I think a UHF trunked system would have been better, but those Motorola sales folks are excellent. And I'm not complaining about Motorola....it's still the best stuff out there, just for the terrain and area....a VHF or UHF trunked system would have made more sense.

Scanners

I have had a Saratoga County 800 radio in my vehicle for several months even before EMS and FIRE were cut over. The only time I had issues with garble was when I was in Essex Vermont. (Go figure) I have been in Scotia and communicated with someone in Glens Falls loud and clear.

The system is designed for use with the XLT1500 and XLS1500 radios not scanners.

I think its great that scanners are not picking it up clear, maybe it is working as designed, hummm.

I work directly with Dispatchers, Police, Fire and EMS people and all have nothing but praise for the system and being able to understand every communication when used with equipment designed for the Saratoga County Astro P25 800 Motorola system.
Yes the alert tones are a little funky but they do nothing on the system. The tones open up VHF pagers carried by emergency responders. The voice is ok but understand it is a VHF bridged over repeater to a TAC.

Yea, that's just great. Not everybody here is just a scanner buff listening at home. Some of us are in neighboring agencies that do mutual aid with Saratoga County agencies. Most of us are not going to be able to spend $2K+ to be able to hear what we are headed into. A $400-500 scanner is probably more than most will be willing to pay, especially if it sounds like crap.

Whats most sad is THEY ACCEPT THIS TRASH!

You would think they wouldnt want to compromise thier communications!!

The thing is E-MAC,if it is a DIGITAL SCANNER it is meant to pick up DIGITAL SIGNALS..

Most cellphones that are digital SOUND LIKE CRAP,the audio waves all over,etc........

Digital is not a reliable form of communication BY ANY MEANS!!

I dont understand why ppl are so dumbed down these days and accept garbage when what they had before WAS MUCH BETTER!

Whats happend to thier wills??

It's not that simple. Scanners could be made to work as well as the Motorola or Harris or EFJ or Tait radios, but they wouldn't cost $300. It's recevier design and performance. You need a true IQ receiver, which scanners are not...they are inexpensive receiver designs based on FM demodulators.P25 decode shoe-horned in to a analog receiver basically.

Anyone try using an SDR on this system?

Designing a radio system (analog or digital) with that level of coverage is very complex, and involves frequency planning and reuse, link budgets, simulcast delay spread (if simulcast like this one) and many other issues. I suggest picking up a good book on RF engineering and radio system design if you wish to fully understand the complexity.
