Just an update for all of you... I keep finding new features to add and I'm waiting to buy the license to redistribute this Media Library, so right now I plan on releasing an RC2 (Release Candidate 2). I have been working on two amazing features (correlated with each other).

1. A status light indicator to indicate if there is chatter on the channel. This feature is the same as the Radio Shack Pro-106. Right now it is blue, but I will make it customizable. I'm having a hard time finding a good place to put it, but I'm messing around with it. It currently has a delay of 3 seconds, but I plan to make this adjustable later.

2. My most favorite option besides the recording option is the ability to have the feed auto mute when there is no chatter and un-mute when there is. Many feeds have an annoying hum and with this auto mute feature, you only hear the hum if someone is talking. Makes a cleaner feed!

Is RC2 available now?
If so, from the original download site?

Not quite yet but now that I know there's in interest, I'll see how soon I can get it out. I just got a few bugs out of it and I just need to add a record menu option to the system tray (for quick recording) ... Hopefully later tonight or some time tomorrow.

v1.0 RC2:

There are a few main changes this version. First, we added an auto-mute feature that mutes the feed when there is no radio chatter. Next, we added a status light indicator (like the Radio Shack Pro-106), and we will add the option to change it from blue to another color later on. We also added the option to start recording from the system tray icon. As far as the dashboard goes, we made it smaller to work with 800x600, and added a system tray icon that allows you to minimize the window to the system tray. We also fixed the bitrate so that it matches what the feed is using.

-- UPDATED Beta/RC statement --
I will make the public beta key expire April 7th. Please make sure that you tell me any bugs that you find or anything that you don't think should be on the public release. I will be releasing v1.0.10 as the the public release (Called Scanner Force v1.0). From there, beta testers will have to sign up to further test beta software. Keys will be issued on per computer basis, which means that if you buy a license, I will allow you to install Scanner Force on 3 computers. Each computer will need a separate key that will be issued in an online control panel (or by email if control panel is unavailable). Trial/Demo keys are issued from the control panel (once available) and will expire after 3 days. The control panel will not reissue trial/demo keys and if you need another one, members will have to contact me on a per-case basis. Current pricing is expected to be $10 for people that reported at least one bug in this thread or gave a response on the software, $15 for Radio Reference members, and $20 for others. Pre-orders are accepted by contacting me by PM. Please try this RC before making any Pre-orders! Future versions will also add some premium features (probably a $2 / month that is prepaid either 6 or 12 months) that offers radio lingo, such as codes, signals, and different phrases (possible option for people to receive free premium features by contributing). I will also try to implement a free discussion forum (per feed).

V1. RC2 works great.
I like the auto mute, the activity indicator, the left & right meters etc.

I tried SF on a feed with a hum.
For the most part the auto mute works well.

I do notice that the mute opens periodically allowing the hum to be heard but there is no audio. Monitoring the same same feed on another system shows no audio when SC auto mute opens. It is like it is scanning for activity or the auto mute is being faked out by oscillating hum level that I here via another set up.

I've noticed this too. I may have to allow people to adjust the level at which the unmute happens. This is where I might make (in a future version) a community involvement where people can suggest the best level and it will default to this (per feed) and people can override this locally. This most likely won't be a premium feature, but it will be included.

Thanks.

To do an auto mute because of hum on the feed is difficult.
I guess SF is looking at a level change from the "quiet" noise floor to when audio is present. If so, any raise in hum level will trick SC to open the audio.

I figured it might be like that. Right now, I believe I have the level set to 600 and I didn't want to set it higher, not knowing how it would affect many feeds. I guess the recommended setting per feed will HAVE to be coming up soon, haha

I have two feeds that I tried out on scanner force and the feed is always showing as on (the blue indicator is always on).The level meters are fairly high compared to others feeds that I have tried, They are also stereo feeds.

One of the feeds has a hum control filter and the other does not.

I have checked out your feeds and because your hum levels are near the levels of other feeds when there is chatter, the only way to correct this will be when I make the default level come from the server and add a local manual override.

Yes, at the moment this is the only option. I was beginning to make an announcement this weekend before my browser crashed. I am basically going to release what I have now as v1.0. I will immediately begin working on v2.0 and will make v2.0 a longer beta test and still release minor v1.0 updates in the process. v2.0 will be a complete redesign and hopefully 10x more stable (there's nothing unstable about this one, but I could clean up the code a bit). My goal is to make it one big application and all connected (a little more self teaching, but its doable). I hope to make more of a MDI (for those who don't know, its Multiple Document Interface) and have the players become more synchronous with each other. For now, they run off of the Player.exe executable with the argument of the feed ID. If it is the first time using the Player.exe, it would need the key followed by the feed ID. Hopefully v2.0 won't need this!

Update:

I have decided to go a new direction with Scanner Force. My goal for Scanner Force is to maximize what Scanner Force is able to do. With this, I have decided to take a spin on how Scanner Force is going to be released. The scanner force v1.0 will be released for $5. The reason this will be released so cheaply is because v2.0 will have a different pricing scheme (and unknown how soon it will be published). v2.0 will move to what I will call subscriptions. The Scanner Force program itself will be released free of charge. With this, you can manually enter in URL's and get the same playback as you do already. I will be working on another feature where you can record you scanner from your local recording device. With this new feature, I hopefully can add options such as audio archive, splitting recordings by time/hour, etc…

Apart from the basic free access to the program, I will be offering subscriptions. Access to Radio Reference feeds will be $8.99/month (A price I like from Netflix that is still affordable). Right now I am thinking of naming this subscription “Public Safety Connect”, but I am open for suggestions. Another subscription I would like to offer is NOAA weather feeds. I have contacted Weather Underground in hopes that they will offer a similar API to Radio Reference so that you will be able to listen to NOAA and Radio Reference feeds. If we are able to offer Weather Underground, the price will be dependent upon what kind of royalty I have to pay them. I may also offer bundle packages.

Another feature that I just thought of now is the possibility for Scanner Force to host your recorded audio (local or from Radio Reference) to share with family and friends (this will be a subscription and probably around $10/month for a quota of 12 recordings, $20/month for 25 recordings, and $30 for unlimited recordings (All recordings will have to be less than 10MB each)

After I have got v2 in a nice Alpha testing stage, I will also be working on a Windows Mobile application that offers most of the features you see in the current player (I will be interested in seeing if you can move feeds to the left and right on Windows Mobile)

Let me know what you guys think of all of this! Right now, my plans are to release v1 to people who see it on this forum. The website will show Scanner Force in a BETA mode still, and I will take applications soon for v2 on my website (a post will be made in these forums). I have to say that I have started v2 and things are 10x fresher and improved!

I forgot to add that the public beta key will expire on April 9th. I will be putting up v1 soon here and if you would like a key, please send me a message so I can work with you on payment details.

I like it

I haven't been on RR for awhile, but browsing around I came across this.

I have it running on windows 7...working great!

One feature that I thought would be cool...what if you unmute audio based on alpha tag...kinda like a programmable TG list on a scanner?

For example, I was listening to the Sarpy feed...if I wanted to say only listen to West or Bellevue, it would be great to have a way to only have audio play only when these tags are active. Maybe even a list of tags you don't want to listen to or "lock out"...like if a public works TG came up for some reason.

You could even take it a step further and allow the use of wildcards, exact text matches etc...if that makes sense.

Also, another idea I had is the ability to sort feeds by type - ie Public Safety, Railroad, etc, independent of what geographical area you choose.

Just my ideas!

Great ideas! I really like the unmute based on alpha tags! I am currently working on v2 and this will be a great addition to it! I'm debating weather or not to add a plug-in system support but if I do (probably will) I will make this as an add-on! That way, I can make changes to certain features, such as this, without effecting the entire application! Also, when people have great ideas and know how to program, they can create and test it, give it to the public, and if people like it... make it a supported plug-in.
