Upgrades: Same price.

Performance: No one will believe me if I try to describe how much better it is than any other scanner. Both weak signal and simulcast performance are phenomenal. You'll have the opportunity to see some videos in a variety of situations.

Was a little worried as I took that pic, as the sample is an engineering pre-pro and not as water resistant as the final will be. Managed to get some pics w/o killing it (the only real weak spot is the speaker...this sample doesn't have a waterproof speaker that the final will have).

So LSM has been improved, but not fixed? Pardon my skepticism, and the collective skepticism of the RR community, but exactness and specificity would be really helpful here.

Wondering if Tetra decoding(not decryption) would ever be possible on these kind of units like currently available on PC.

Glad I held off on Friday buying a Unication pager after seeing his avatar change.

I'm still happy with my Unication pager - it does offer a better Ingress Protection rating IP67 vs IPX4 and the battery life is better than what is being advertised on the SDS-100. That being said, I think they are different animals and I'll probably end up with an SDS-100 because I want a true scanner.

Only 3 upgrades for 8 additional voice formats:
* DMR: MOTOTRBO Capacity+, Connect +, DMR Tier III, Hytera XPT, Single-Channel DMR (5)
* EDACS Provoice (1)
* NXDN 4800 and 9600 (2)

Whether I'm right or wrong, that suggests to me that NXDN support will be the last to be added and probably not available initially. You've already got DMR / EDACS Provoice support in the 436/536 - so those will likely be available (via upgrade purchase) in the SDS100 at the time the scanner is available to buy.

And my guess is that a separate upgrade for Provoice is only there to quell any people who might otherwise B&M about having to pay for something they'll never use if you had included it in with the DMR.

I'm looking forward to the release!

Mike

PS: I don't expect any response regarding my speculation.

Ouch, your looking at almost a $1000 handheld with all the upgrades.

If you consider that many top of the line scanners in the early to mid 1980s cost in the $400 range, then adjusted for inflation, $1000 is actually not unreasonable. If the current upgrade prices hold the same, then +$700 + $50 (ProVoice) + $60 (DMR) = $810. No idea what NXDN upgrade will cost.

I've seen Motorola radios have trouble. That said, I've not yet seen the SDS100 have any issues.

I'd believe you. I'm sure anyone who has used SDRTrunk or OP25 would believe you, as well as anybody who uses a quality VHF+ SDR like the Airspy.

I'm really excited for this release.

Sitting at the Bird Cafe on Saturday, waiting for the rain to start so I could get my wet product shots (I like realism) and having some brunch, I set the SDS100 and BCD436HP to both analyze signal quality on the Northeast Tarrant County site of the Fort Worth Regional Radio System. Those of you from the area are very aware of the challenges faced trying to monitor that site on any scanner.

The pic was taken after sitting and analyzing for about 5 minutes. BCD436HP showed a signal, but never decoded a single byte. SDS100 had great decode quality with the same signal.

Does showing the 436 in the video indicate a firmware upgrade for NXDN??

I would doubt that. I think the 436 in the video was meant to show that the SDS100 was seeing great signal quality while at the same time the 436 was not (because the SDS100 was made to handle LSM / CQPSK / simulcasts / whatever and the 436 and every other previous scanner from any manufacturer was not).
