I think I remember UPman saying the techs work on them in order and, once it's received by Uniden. After you get the message that it was received, it becomes a waiting game.

Yup post#78. As stated before turnaround historically has been around 20 working days.

It is typical to take 5-7 business days after receipt before it goes into our system.

Uniden also received my unit mid last week as I got my email and status number. However it has been a week and nothing has changed on my end as well. Estimated ship date of April is all it says. All in all, I’m hoping that it’s an easy fix and I don’t have this issue again. I’m disappointed that this happened for sure. I really don’t want to have to send it in again and wait another month.

I also got an update indicating a ship date of April 4 (it was received Feb.1). If that is the case it will effectively be a loss of 22% of usage since i received the newly purchased scanner last June. If it breaks a 3rd time I will be done Uniden scanners. I have been a long-time proponent and have recommended and purchased Uniden scanners for many retired friends I have made over the years while working in senior housing complexes. There is no way I could recommend the SDS100 given the current state of affairs. Maybe I have a lemon. Time will tell.....

The estimated ship date initially entered is always 4 weeks from date of receipt (which was March, not February). Until a tech gets it, there is no way to make a more realistic estimate. When a tech gets it, it usually goes out the same day or the next.

Yes, my unit arrived there 2/19/19 and I talked to Forrest, (He was the customer service rep who answered the phone when I called the support number, real helpful guy) who told me if I haven't recieved an email saying they have finished repair by 3/19/19 to call back. I was one of those who's unit stopped receiving, had the intermittant static noise breaking squelch on VHF/UHF analogue, and the RSSI meter stuck on -35.

So what is the underling issue here? I assume this can be an issue with any 100 regardless of date of manufacture?

I think the general consensus is that it appears to be a cold solder joint although I don't believe anyone has nailed it down for sure, at least not here.

Yeah I can’t say for sure.... my status on Unidens website hasn’t changed at all either in the last 2 weeks. If they ever update it I will be sure to let everyone know what it says...

Okay well I got my SDS 100 back from Uniden repair yesterday and it works great so far. They say that they did replace the infamous cold solder joint and that seems to have done the trick. I have done the firmware upgrades and am experimenting with all of the different filter settings but it's too soon to tell what they do as far as performance improvements goes. Time-wise they were a week ahead of schedule, they're expected return date was March 19th so that was a pleasant surprise. I will post more as I put the unit through its paces, but so far so good.

I stop receiving any thing from all the trunk systems in my area. Even though I have full signal bars, even on systems out of my area. I reset everything to factory and now all I get is a static clicking sound. Is this the same issue everyone is having? I've only had it for two months. Do I need to send this in for a repair?

That is the clicking sound I was hearing on VHF/UHF conventional frequencies. However, your database seems to be wiped clean. Were you hearing that when the scanner was programmed and scanning? And for the record systems that were coming in great the day I got it back are starting to fade out a bit 3 days later.

No I was not hearing it. While monitoring trunk systems it was completely silent for over an hour. I tried different systems and they all were quiet. The reason I wiped it clean was I didn't know what else try and that's when the noise began.

Well mine went totally deaf in a day or two, and it looks like it may be starting again. Not a happy camper.

I would try updating the firmware and database, i'm not sure if that will help in any way and this may be a repair situation.

Wait you just back from repair and it’s not working?? At what point does uniden just replace? Seems like now would be a good time.

You sent it in for repair and now it’s back and the issue is back again? Wow.... yeah I would get a replacement from them. That’s ridiculous

When I got it back the first day I put it through its paces and it was picking up an Edacks system in a different county about 30 to 40 miles away with no problem with the RS 800 rubber duck. Now it is not receiving that system even when hooked up to my discone which is 40 feet up on a mast. The same system barely comes in on a yagi which is about 20 feet up. I don't know how this happened the unit was not dropped as I am the only one who handles it and I am positive that has not happened. There has been a marked deterioration on VHF / UHF frequencies as well. There is not a lot around here on VHF or UHF as far as Public Safety goes, but we do have CSX railroad and of course the Marine band to listen to, as well as Aero frequencies. So in the space of about 3 days all of this got to the point it is now. Yeah I would like a replacement unit 2 but unfortunately I don't seem to have any input on that as far as Uniden repair goes, in other words it's pretty much up to them. So it will be getting boxed up for its second trip to Texas. No fun.

My feelings exactly.
If you're having issues under after a repair, you have a 3 month repair warranty where we can send you a pre-paid shipping label to have the unit sent in again. We can set this up for you if you call us at 1-800-297-1023
