So I am looking to buy one of these radios but there's just a few reasons that has me kind of stuck. I am obviously gonna have it on a lot so is battery life gonna be a constant issue where I'm charging numerous times a day and device life, as far as sending a ton of cycles through the battery could I end up toasting the device sooner than something that's $650 should? I am gonna be traveling with a device so its gonna be in a car, I know the SDS100 would be fine and the SDS200 has a DC power plug for a car but the antenna could be an issue. I want my investment to last and suit my needs well so that's why I wanted to ask owners of these devices what they have to say. Also, I've heard people say that the SDS100 at least in a car is too quite to hear with road noise, couldn't find much to fact check that claim.

I use my sds100 in a 2006 extended van loaded with clanky tools. I use the dc adapter and a hard wired amplified speaker along with a Larsen tri band antenna. Also, in the settings mode/battery options, you can set the charging circuit to "disable" which allows the unit to be powered up but not charge. You have to decide whether the screen size of the 100 will suffice. Portability is a plus. I also have the 200 for in home use.

Thank you for your input, I had no idea that the SDS100 had that option to keep it plugged in and not charge the battery. Because the main thing for me is whatever device I pick isn’t gonna be permanently put anywhere. It’s not stuck in the house or car, it’s on the go constantly but it’s gonna be used heavily and just didn’t know what would be best. Obviously the SDS200 would be a pain to move around a lot but if it checks more boxes than the 100 then it could still be an option

If it's going to be moved around a lot then you also might want to consider getting a CABLE and a GPS especially if you travel out of state or between cities. Works great. I use it when I'm traveling with my 100.

Appreciate the comment, SDS100 is still leading in my head I’m just trying to use others advice to consolidate it for me.

If you are not using the GPS, you can just feed power in the MicroUSB port. Won't charge the battery, but will run the device.
