Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So, is the BKR9000 really vapourware?

Does anyone know the scan list capacity for trunked TG's? Also in reading through the manual, it seems like Nuisance delete is NOT available for trunking TG's, is that correct? That seems insane, given this feature's been around for decades.

Finally, an actual review video. Apparently you can't yet program the RSM to change channels. My ancient XTS 5000 does this, hopefully BK figures out this apparent glitch pretty quickly...

If the BKR9000 specs are accurate they are the best of all multiband radios by far.

Is it much more expensive to option a radio after purchase than it is at time of purchase? I don't need another multiband at the moment but if I could get a BKR9000 somewhat bare bones ($) to see if I like it before loading it up ($$$) I might get one to play with. I suspect that this radio might be the KING of conventional/simplex based on specs. Rather or not it has the processing power and smart enough firmware to perform well on Trunking systems is yet to be proven.

We’ve just received our ATP radios this week and testing has begun on MPSCS; so far, I am very impressed, the build feels great in the hand and the frame has zero flex and these radios are surprisingly lightweight compared to other multi-band radios we’ve evaluated.

Just some quick updates on the MPSCS ATP of the BKR-9000, so far, they are working very well and support on our system nicely; however, they do have a few software/firmware items to resolve before approval for use. Some examples of issues are relate mostly with encryption issues, such as DES and OTAR operation not being supported currently to load a DES UKEK and the radio does not retain the DES/ARC4 encryption keys unless the radio is read again after key loading; meaning, if you send a new template out, currently it will overwrite all DES/ARC4 encryption keys unless the original read included them beforehand. With that said, BK has been very receptive to feedback and expects to address these items very soon via firmware/RES software. Otherwise, they're excellent radios and they seem to work well in both Phase 1 and Phase 2 TDMA operation as well as conventional. Some shortcoming on the conventional side is you cannot have talkgroup aliases at the present time, only Talkgroup 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. I am confident they will fix this item also, Overall, it a pretty decent radio and the audio loadness will blow your socks off for sure. The best attribute is the build and feel in your hand, that audio punch and the ease of programming operations once you understand their ecosystem.

I finally got a demo. So far after less than a day I really like it, my biggest gripe is they don't yet have an RSM with a channel select knob. However the current RSM is pretty cool, quite rugged and should be easy to use with gloves. The radio itself seems quite rugged as well, as others have mentioned the P25 audio is phenomenal. They did a fabulous job there.

I also love the three line main display, you can (for example) set the bottom line to always display what site alias your on. Mine currently alternates between UID and site alias which is cool. Also the big LED at the top is pretty cool, it shows green on RX and Red on TX.

Quite interestingly, the RES software has a total firewall between the core Trunking system settings and everything else. From the little I've played with it, it appears you can adjust pretty much all the buttons, knobs, display and menu settings for BOTH Trunking and conventional without a system key. Just the main Trunking system settings are all greyed out (global settings, control channels, talkgroups, site alias table etc.). And, you can make any changes you want on the conventional side.

From what I can tell they decided to include less options overall for Trunking, for example RES has no options to modify RSSI thresholds like you can with Harris or Moto (if I'm missing something, someone please correct me). Apparently that's all hard coded in the firmware or something. I'd be curious to know why, maybe the engineers felt most people who modify those settings from the default values don't know what they were doing.

Any price info or is that all done through the 'well it depends, contact your sales rep' system?

BK has a QPA (Contract # 0000000000000000000027998) with Indiana that says
"The Contractor shall notify, through email, all agencies and local government entities throughout
the State of any radio equipment enhancements or product announcements by 15 business days
following public release."

CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY!!!! I received my BKR 9000 DEMO YESTERDAY! On initial box opening....I'M IMPRESSED!! I had already made up the dat. file for it, so it was easy to do the setup. Nice displays, great audio. Basically the same radio as the BKR 5000. OH....but different battery...so different chargers.
But being able to listen to Fire and PD and NOT carry 2 radios is a complete game changer.
