Hi Volfirefighter.. Thanks for letting us know (#399 comment.) that we are not alone. Why don't these companies come up with a device to fix simulcast in our existing scanners.? They should advertised those scanners as not being able to handle this simulcast.

At the moment, I have 3 scanners WS1065 sitting here. They are programmed the same with WIN500 and in the same location in the house. The factory telescope antennas are shorted and pointed in same direction. Scanner A and B are giving me some understandable audio, garble and silence. (hoping an antenna with help here). Most of the time, they are quiet. Never get a whole transmission. But definitely getting more than than Scanner C. Scanner C is not the same. C is showing a flash of transmission, a click / chirp here or there, maybe a word and a very rare garble, mostly all silent. Overtime, I have done several uploads on scanner C. If that makes some difference that I could be wearing it out.
Is there some config settings within the scanner that could be causing this? I did a Prog, Func, softkeys F2, F3 to look over the settings. They are the same in each WS1065. In comparison of A and B to C, C seems to be having a problem other than simulcast. I have not changed anything other than what is on WIN500. All 3 of these scanners have the same settings / upload from WIN500. Why would this scanner C act differently than the scanner A / B ??? You think the electronic components / decoder different in this scanner C ?

Are your friends getting an antenna to help?

Yup, exactly. I know it takes some time for programming and whatnot but seems like it's taking forever when Summit County's transition seemed to take only a couple of days.

Greetings!

From what others have tried in the past, a yagi antenna pointed in the direction of the closest tower seems to work the best. But it sounds like in your case it's just the location of the radios. Like mine personally, in Louisville, my Pro106 will work just fine sitting on the shelf in the livingroom, but if I take it back to the kitchen, forget it. So if you are able to install a yagi and split the cables to each of the radios you should be all set to go.

I'm not sure if this one would work but here's an example: Wilson Yagi Antenna for 700/800/900 MHz Band - 301111

Posie. Not to be a smarty, but I have the perfect solution. This is what I did and it works like a charm.

Sell all of your scanners and with that money buy one that will properly decode simulcast (SDS100/200).

I've found my life to be much less stressful now and I can enjoy my hobby.

I just programmed two different Whistler scanners, a 1065 and a 1040 for some friends. Both have the same issue. It is not garbled audio which is the classic issue with older digital scanners on simulcast systems. It is just crappy control channel receive. These two scanners received the old Stark system as well as old MARCS great with 5 bars of signal. Now they struggle to get even one bar on the simulcast. My SDS100 sitting right next to them gets full bars. As a result, they will miss half the transmissions that the SDS100 picks up. I am convinced it is an issue receiving a simulcast control channel more than anything else.

That's exactly what it is; the scanner is having trouble pulling out the simulcast control channel data. Had the same issue here with a PSR500.

So I bought a Uniden SDS 200 and it arrived today. I need help - I want to program just certain channels I want to listen too. I have tried following the book. I had a homepatrol2 and had no problem programming it once I figured it out - lol. So who can walk me through how to program a favorites list?

Thanks USMARINE .. ( #403) It will have to be an indoor antenna.

Thank you Nasby. ( #404) A good idea … But 2 of the 3 scanners do not belong to me. Thou I am considering the SDS200 with hopes it works in my location.

Gobeit.. (#407) Bet you are a happy camper!! You will have to let me know how the SDS200 works for you since I live smack close. Like you, I simply want to listen to our area channels. The only way I would want to program a scanner would be from my PC.. As I do with the WIN500 program. Wonder if WIN500 could be used to program the SDS. Would be so much easier to have all the info seen on the computer screen like the WIN500. I keep notes / screen cuts / copy paste into my Excel files.

Saw that Nimishillen Twp Fire Dispatch was added to the database today. Could this be a positive sign that Cencom may be finally ready to move their departments over to MARCS?

Posie777,

Sorry to say, you can't directly import the settings from WIN500 into Sentinel. But what you can do in Sentinel, is to set up your Favorites Lists to work like your WIN500 Scan Lists.

The biggest difference between WIN500 and Sentinel, has to do with the number of options that Sentinel offers. The good news is, you are a member of RR and there are plenty of people here that can offer you advice if you have questions. Plus, there's also Uniden Support and UPMan.

I have one. Yes, it works. I get everything in Stark County crystal clear. As for ease of programming, the software makes it a breeze. I would not attempt to program manually.

Did you already remove the Homepatrol version of Sentinel? If not, you could export your favorites list and then import it into the sds-200 version of sentinel.

I have noticed that every time that a MAC Fire has been used on an incident , they use MAC Fire 5. This was both Massillon on one occasion and Jackson on several. I am guessing the 12 MAC's are broken up by areas of the county with a designated one to use? Or it could be just coincidence that they all chose 5.

I hope that Louisville fire also will be moved to MARCS. I don't know why the city would pay for 2 different dispatchers, CENCOM for their fire and CANCOM for their police. I know at one time their fire was dispatched by CANCOM on the Stark/Canton 800 site but they quickly moved to CENCOM for some reason. It would be nice to see CENCOM also dispatch their police and hopefully be in the clear once they are on MARCS.

Louisville Fire left the Stark County system due to coverage issues. I am told they have tested coverage on MARCS Simulcast and are very pleased and will make the switch. The delay is Cencom installing dispatch consoles. Louisville Police, along with East Canton Police, are already on MARCS Simulcast, encrypted, and being dispatched by Cancom.

So I took your advise and created my favorites list on the computer and its now downloaded into my scanner. Now I can’t figure out how to get it to just scan my favorites lists and not the whole data base.

Under menu, set scan selection, select lists to monitor.

Make sure Full database and search with scan are both off

Been listening to the Old Stark system on search. Only hearing the following:

Canton City Services: water, sewer, streets, garbage, etc.
Uniontown Fire
Malone College Security

Anyone hearing anything else?
