So the Frankfort site would cover Lexington to cause the UHF p25 post 12 covers Lexington

It's one of the sites in the KSP Post 12 area that is currently licensed.
Other sites will likely be added/licensed in the future.

A good rule of thumb is that the existing KSP UHF P-25 conventional sites "should" be same as new 700Mhz sites.

Current KSP UHF P-25 conventional has a site in Lexington (Fayette County).

Coverage areas will no doubt vary from site to site.

Changes are anticipated and expected.

So that one will probably cover fayette cause it will have its simulcast sites in different counties that cover their service area for that post and Frankfort is the main site where the core is

They are probably still building Richmond’s sites and installing the core

Looks like actual site ID's may be "1 lower" than FCC database site numbers

Examples:
Farmington FCC database lists as "01-02", actual reporting as "01-01"
Clinton FCC database lists as "01-05", actual reporting as "01-04"

Looks like system may be set up as follows:
- RFSS is post number / zone
- Appears post location will be set up as site 1 in each respective zone (Mayfield/Farmington for Post 01)
- A very logical in terms of setting up the system

Exactly - just because a site is located in a specific county covered by a specific post doesn't mean it won't carry traffic from other post areas.

A lot of the existing KSP UHF P-25 conventional sites in the central and eastern part of the state are located in areas that cover multiple post areas.

I remember the fun of trying to figure that system out in the days BEFORE P-25 capable scanners - just listening to the digital noise on multiple frequencies (one frequency per each conventional multi-cast site) key up at the same time. Oh those memories!!!

Farmington site 101
Golden Pond site 103
Clinton site 104
Paducah site 105
Burna site 107
Analyzing the Control Channel on each site

Thanks catbird!!!

So Golden Pond is the one listed in FCC database as "Grand Rivers" in Lyon County as "Near Hermitite Lookout Tower Off The Trace" - that would put it in the US Forestry Service Land Between The Lakes Recreation Area.

Just my 2 pennies worth.... how about KYWINS?

Kentucky Wireless Interoperability Network System

That was the proposed name of a much earlier UHF P25 TRS proposal, that never received any funding over a decade ago. It was deemed to costly to build back then. Personally, the name has a nice ring to it.

No...

KYWINS is/was the Commonwealth's wireless data system which allowed for communication/data exchange from mobile/vehicle applications to fixed-base terminals. From what I understand, the majority if not all of KSP's 800MHz Mobile Data terminals have been removed from their respective KEWS/private tower sites and the system was replaced in favor of FirstNet/Verizon vehicle applications.

I could also be completely wrong and It may still be operating... Not really a huge concern of mine

I'm reminded of the old saying "Be careful for what you wish because you just might get it." I'm concerned when this comes about, that "E" word might be in play.

During last year's state fair, I did hear any KSP units at the Fairgrounds like I used to in previous years and wonder if some encryption is in use.

They might been using firstnet ptt or eschat or tango, tango or Motorola wave or zello work or southernlinc cause the new radios can have apps like that on them and they can connect to LTE OR 4g or 5g to free up channels on their conventional uhf system and there new system to

I think encryption might start dying off as firstnet grows and gets better

I know after Nextel sunset iden encryption became very very popular on p25 and firstnet is a lte version of iden for public safety and first responders only like iden was without the regular public user to

Just so you will learn something new to BRAGG ABOUT TACN is designed to use P25 Trunking FIRST and BACKUP is FIRSTNET LTE and I do not see that changing anytime soon. Also NEXTEL never had a large PUBLIC SERVICE FOLLOWING.
