Its a dispatcher console, they talk on the cadio by clicking the box with the lightning bolt on it. Most 911 Dispatch centers have this set up on their computors

Out of order

Can you please let me know what I am looking at here and what it all means? I am very interested in this info.

In this particular shot the main channel (upper left corner labeled ASTRO-D) is disabled as annotated by the red circle x.

In NH police speak the main ASTRO dispatch channel for Troop-D is "10-2".

I really like the console, and an update since the thread was started I am hearing the annoying noise a little more often now on Troop D freq. I wonder if more troopers are using the encrytion.

Not encryption....

Nope....they do not have encryption capability. But they are adding additional mobile data terminals and the increased traffic you are hearing is MDT traffic.

A follow up on my original question that started this thread. The other night I heard the dispatch for Troop D talking to a trooper, and the trooper was talking and the noise that I hate was going on and then the dispatcher said "10-5". So I have to think the trooper was talking using the encrytion equipment that someone stated earlier. I don't think it was the data terminal.

I posted this earlier in the thread and I still believe this to be true. The State Police must be using encrytion or something along those lines.

Thank you all who responded to this thread.

No problem...I'll just also state for the final time that in order for a trooper to converse with the Troop station encrypted, the necessary hardware needs to be installed at the troop station to handle encryption. The Troop stations have no such equipment and therefore cannot decode digitally encrypted traffic.

As I explained earlier one of two things are occuring. You are receiving MDT traffic (which you are going to do when monitoring Troops A & D in particular) or your scanner is going out of sync due to the occasional tremendous audio level differences it encounters between some mobiles & portables versus the hot audio level diplayed by most Troop stations.

However, you are not copying encrypted traffic.

Hope this helps....

MDT's sound like broken Digital Noise...little spits of Digital, and my scanner rapidly switches between FM and DG (Digital)...but Encryption sounds like a rapid digital Audio all chopped up

When I've heard encryption on federal P25 channels, it has sounded very much like speech inversion on analog channels - just more "digital" sounding.

Digital encryption on analog channels sounds like static with beeps. MDT traffic sounds similar.

Thanks everyone for your input. Just the other night I was in Concord, NH doing some monitoring. And I have the Federal Protection agency in as 417.2000 and sometimes when they use their portables it is encryted, is this correct? I thought I read it on here somewhere that when using their portables they are encryted. Well the sound I hear when this is happening is the same sound I hear on Troop D. And if it is not encrytion then why does the dispatcher answer right after the noise is done saying "10-5".

A question to whoevers monitors Troop D has anyone else heard what I am talking about?

Also about the federal channel 417.2000 is it in NH or elsewhere? I ask because they were talking about leaving JFK which I think they are refering to JFK airport in New York.

417.200 MHz is a nationwide network of repeaters. They are not always linked up, but their national control center in Philadelphia does radio testing every so often.

Sometimes the local traffic is encrypted, but any network stuff I've heard has been in the clear.

tbone, I hear the same thing, and have for about a 1 1/2 to 2 years. Only that unit however. No one else. That unit also seems to direct all the others when something major happens, like a serious car accident etc. It is robotic, not beep, beep, beep, and the dispatcher answers immediately. I hear the beep, beep stuff from like toll booth etc, this isn't that however. No idea thought it's encrypton myself, but I'm a rookie and plxnbury knows far more than I im sure and seems to have an inside scoop which is nice. Just posted this not to cause or flame a fire, just to say you weren't the only one.

I thank everyone for their feedback on this matter and I will have to live with the noise until RS comes out with a fix for it or an update. I thank you Fosters now I know I am not the only one who hears it, and there is not anything wrong with my scanner.
