I heard them come in, but I was still in the basement finishing up a project. On another group, Brian (Waltz41) indicated they were A-10's from Idaho, but not sure where he got that ID? Hopefully he'll comment.

Not due to leave till Tuesday

Good catch Mark. I had turned off my 138-144 search radio by that time. I expected them earlier than that if I was going to be able to hear them. I imagine they are just what was scheduled. Tuesday is what I have for their mission continuance day also.

Yeah, they were Boise A-10s as posted. 3 flew over the house around 1900, maybe i missed the first one. Looked like they had a centerline tank on them. I was able to snap a quick picture and when I looked at it on my computer, saw the ID on the tail. Not the greatest, but it works for ID purposes (no pun intended :) Sounds like they might go up tomorrow morning to head overseas. I missed that C-17 (darnit!) as I was away for the weekend, although I did catch RAIDER 51 on departure yesterday, about 1400.

0848: Two flights of F-16s off from Andrews heading for W-107. The first flight is BUDMAN and the second is WILD that took off about five minutes later at 0853. BUDMAN is on 143.6 and WILD on 139.15 for interflight. Freq sequence was TRACON 348.725, 317.425, ZDC-Swann 360.7, Sea Isle 281.45, Giant Killer 255.0 with BUDMAN checking in there at 0907 and WILD following a few minutes later.
NOTE: BUDMAN is not a new callsign for the DC-ANG. They've used it in the distant past.
0918: SCARY flight of f-16s airborne from Andrews. Interflight freq is 143.15. Heading a different direction...from TRACON 348.725 to ZDC-Calvert 281.4 at 0923 and over to Pax Approach 305.2 for area R-6609 for 20 minutes at 0926. Over to BayWatch at 0926 on 354.8 for their mission control.

BUDMAN/WILD coming out of W-107 at 0946. Routing home is Waterloo, Nottingham, Andrews.
WILD to SOF at 0957 and BUDMAN at 0959 with in flight reports. It appears WILD were the shooters and BUDMAN the targets for ACM activity. All four jets are Code 1 coming home.
WILD with ADW Twr for landing at 1008...349.0
BUDMAN with ADw Twr for landing at 1009...349.0
SCARY with ADW Twr for landing at 1014...349.0

Other than those few fighters, the rest of the activity this morning has been the usual array of transports heading hither and yon. One that was a bit unusual was a 756th ARS KC-135R from Andrews being used on a REACH mission. It was REACH 2543 (tail 62-3543) that took off about 0750. There was also an E-4B from the 1st ACCS that zipped overhead.

At 0836 and again at 0902, there was a female patched onto 311.0 reading an Emergency Action Message (EAM) (a long string of letters and numbers). Unfortunately, I missed her identifier at the end of the message.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program....

0923: Flight of four unknown fighters on interflight ...139.85 (Very little chat on this freq so nothing to ID them)
0930: Have a flight on ZDC-Irons 360.85 going to Langley which I believe is the same flight.

0946: BANK 41 (Langley) talking to Oceana NAS on 266.8 (which is also Norfolk area radar) (sounds like a fighter)

1008: German Air Force 538 (C-160, 50+10, LTG 62) with ZDC-Swann 134.5
1011: KEVLAR 41 (flight of two F-22As) also with Norfolk radar...266.8
1018: PAIN 71 (sounds like) to ZDC-Franklin 290.425 and then ZDC-Blackstone 235.625
1022: MARLIN 61 (Langley F-22A) to Norfolk radar...266.8
1024: REACH 4137 (C-17A, 04-4137, McGuire AFB) to McGuire CP...wants a phone patch to the 732nd Airlift Squadron...wants a couple of Tech Sergeants added to the NATO orders....319.4
(REACH 4137 Heavy was with Potomac TRACON 317.425 in the Baltimore area a few minutes prior to this)

1032: Couple of aircraft on tanker interplane talking about getting to the IP at 1444Z...139.875
1032: DUCE 80 (KC-10A, 84-0192, McGuire) to Giant Killer...238.1
1032: TEAM 12 Heavy (KC-10A, 85-0028, McGuire) to Giant Killer....118.125
DUCE 80 and TEAM 12 Heavy were the two aircraft above on 139.875 and will be working together in AR-636.
NOTE: DUCE is the correct spelling - according to them. It's not DEUCE.)
1038: DUCE 80 and TEAM 12 decide it's time to go to AR Primary freq 238.9...and move over there and make contact....their computers now show IP time at a few seconds after 1445Z.
1045: DUCE 80 and TEAM 12 at the IP...238.9

1048: EVAC 60413 (C-130H, 86-0413, 758th AS Pittsburgh), JOSA 546 (C-21A, 84-0140, 458th AS Scott) and REACH 484 (C-17A, 01-0192, 437th AW Charleston) off from Andrews...378.1 and various TRACON freqs.
1052: Army 1053 (UC-35A, 00-1053), and VENUS 24 (C-20B, 86-0204, 99th AS Andrews) arriving at Andrews...various TRACON and ADW Tower 118.4

NOTAMs for our listening area of note (all times are Zulu)
Per NOTAM for Andrews...the Navy Ops freq 386.8 is being replaced for the next three months (at least):

And this afternoon...

1303: WILD flight of four F-16s off from Andrews...heading northeast...interflight 143.6...departure 348.725....TRACON (BWI) 317.425....ZDC-Swann 360.7...ZDC-Sea Isle 281.45....change to interflight 139.15 at 1308...and into W-107 with Giant Killer at 1322 at FL 210 on 255.0. WILDs changing to GK's tac freq 337.225 at 1329. Then, for their ACM activity, two WILDS on 139.15, the other two on 143.6 and using 337.225 for coordination.
WILD flight done at 1412 and contacts SENATE SOF with inflight report...WILD 1 is Code 2 for AIM-9 and 2/3/4 are all Code 1...139.9
And they've all gone back to interflight freq 143.6 for the trip home.
1418: WILD 4-ship to Andrews Tower to begin the landing procedure...349.0

Meanwhile, all those government people that are much, much too important to ever set foot on a commercial aircraft - even in first class - are being ferried around by Armed Forces jet transports at megabuck cost to you and me. Guess they never heard of telephones and video conferencing. For the cost of even a single Learjet flight, you could outfit an office with video conferencing technology.

1330: DUCE 80 to McGuire CP with arrival message...319.4
TEAM 12 that we heard earlier working with DUCE 80 returned to McGuire about an hour ago.
TEAM 10 returned to McGuire about 15 minutes ago.
[I don't know which one grates on me more...DEUCE spelled DUCE or the DC tankers spelling their callsign DEECEE - or DECEE for ATC purposes.]

1341: TETON 38 (C-130H, 92-1538, 187th Airlift Squadron WY-ANG Cheyenne) landing at Andrews...118.4
1347: PETRO 31 (KC-10A, 85-0031, 305th AMW McGuire) to McGuire CP with arrival message...20 minutes out, A-1, 9 pax, no cargo, needs parking...319.4

1418: VENUS 24 (C-20B, 86-0204, 99th AS Andrews) reports airborne at 15 past the hour...378.1
1431: JOSA 406 (C-21A, 84-0095, 457th AS Andrews) to Griffin Command...calls several times on 378.1 with no reply and then switches to 141.55 where he explains about calling many times on UHF. He's told the UHF radio at Andrews is broken. He then goes back to 378.1 and tells whomever is listening about the broken radio problem for that freq.
By 1436 they've fixed the radio on 378.1 and it's working again.

1450: Canadian Air Force (CC-150, tail 15003, 437 Squadron, 8 Wing, Trenton, Ontario) through the area on ZDC freqs.
1620: Royal Air Force ASCOT 2554 (VC-10, tail XV102, 101 Squadron) I believe went into Dulles. I lost him during his descent on the TRACON freqs.
1737: Italian Air Force (Falcon 900EX, tail MM62171, 93 Gruppo) through the area.

I never mentioned that last evening around 1910 I heard "The Queen" arriving at Andrews from Lexington Kentucky. She flew aboard flight BAW9151, callsign SPEEDBIRD 9151, a Boeing 777, tail G-YMMG. It used the VHF TRACON freqs and landed with Andrews Tower 118.4
I wonder what's on her passport? Her name at birth -- Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor -- or Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II? Or does she even have a passport?

0620 - Got to see MAZDA flights take off. Mazda 11 was a flight of 7, including some of the 111th PA ANG birds. MAZDA 21 was a flight of 5, again with some of the 111th. I think off the top of my head it was about 4 or 5 PA planes and then the ID planes as well. Normal chatter between WG Tower on 340.2, Ground on 380.8, and then 111th Ops on 343. They were held up about 10 minutes waiting for the flight plan from NY. They were asking about were the tankers in the air yet from McGuire. Finally got clearance and took off. All had centerline tanks.

When I got to the base, I thought I heard 143.75 Hz being used for interflight, and the PA ANG ground guys talking about some of their planes (nose numbers) and then it kind of made sense since they took some of the 111th planes. I know the 111th is set to go over mid summer, wonder if those planes will just stay over there then for them to fly.

If I get a chance later I'll put up a few pics.

It Was Way Too Early For To Get Up And Go To The Base I Got Some Pics, One Of The Pa Birds Came Back Was Using Mazda 16 Had Problem With O2 Mask Not Sure If He'll Make The Trip Over Or Not But We Will See, But I Wish The Others Good Luck And Godspeed In There Journey Across The Pond Over To The Box. The C-17's Are Still In So Who Knows Where There Going To Leave There Both From Mc Chord AFB, But It's Time To Take A Nap .

1046-1048 - Presumed NJ ANG with "...seven piers, island, rectangular field by the softball diamond, see the house beside it", sounds like a ground attack mission profile to me - 138.425

I get up usually at 530 to teach, so it wasn't that bad :)

I thought I heard something about one of the Mazda's in the second flight having a centerline tank showing no fuel. After the first 7 took off, they actually circled the field pretty high up there and then went out in a very loose 2 ship (x3) and 1 formation. Interesting that the C-17s are still there. Someone was saying it was just one, and then someone mentioned another had already left. Also, while we were there this morning, right before they took off, we saw what looked like two 767s on their way to McGuire (definitley not to philly). So I wonder if they were taking the other personel over from McGuire.

I've heard activity on the 300.400 freq before but didn't know of the 363.250 freq. Anyone heard of it before?

Thanks

Brian

Brian, I wonder how he knew it was Air Force 1 he was listening to on 363.25. I agree he seems to equate it as a replacement for the 300.4 signal. However, unless someone told you the data signal on 300.4 was Air Force 1, how would anyone know it? If they suddenly changed the frequency, what's the chances of someone finding it and being able to firmly say it's the the same signal? It also could mean he heard voice transmissions on that freq. I'm just not sure exactly what he heard there.

Alan

Late addition: Fumes from a work site forced air traffic controllers to evacuate their tower at Dulles Airport and shift to a backup facility Wednesday.

The fumes were reported about 10 a.m., and firefighters ordered the tower cleared, airport spokesman Robert Yingling said. He said the fumes were coming from a work site at the airport's main terminal.
